Name of My Guardian Angel

I’ve been told it is okay for a Catholic to ask what their guardian angel’s name is. I want to know what the name of my guardian angel is, but I’m wondering if there’s a possibility that I would be talking to a demon. I want to know how I can tell if I’m talking to my guardian angel or not, and I want to know how I can find out what their name is.
 
My understanding is that the practice of naming one’s guardian angel has been discouraged by the Church.

If you simply refer to him as “my guardian angel,” he will certainly know who you are talking to, and that’s all that matters.

Likewise, actively attempting to be granted an extraordinary mystical experience is something I’m almost certain is to be avoided, although I don’t have a source to back that up. If God wants us to have such an experience, He will grant it with or without our help. But if we go searching for it, there is always the potential for the evil one to get involved and to lead us astray.

To the OP: You can ask Our Lord, but don’t be disappointed if you do not get an answer.

Yes, this is what I was referencing when I discussed “extraordinary mystical experiences,” such as active communication from an angelic being. 😉

My angel’s name is “dear Angel” followed closely by
"Dear Jesus, thank you for the gift of the holy angels and saints to guide us daily. 🙂

My angel’s name is probably something like “you poor, long-suffering, oft-ignored beautiful angel of God.” 😊 But I do love him, and like Clare refer to him as “dear angel.” 😃
 
So far as I know there isn’t any Cattholic teaching that says that our guardian angels have names so asking would be pointless.
 
My guardian angel told me his name in a dream when I was 8 yrs old. I believe him, so I call him “Rollo”. I don’t think God minds if I call him that. He has saved my life several times so I like to be specific when I thank God for assigning him to me.
 
I will name him George and I will hug him and pet him and squeeze him.
I agree that we are discouraged to ‘name’ our Guardian Angel as if it were a pet. I prefer to have great respect for a being tasked with caring for my soul. A thankless and hard job I would not wish on my worst enemy. However my Guardian Angel does a magnificent job and I often ask the Lord how I may praise it or commend it to our God. But I feel it presumptuous to consider I could be of advantage to my guard given the status difference, a saved being of superior attributes compared to a sinner just barely scraping an acquaintance with our God.
I see little value wanting to know its name. It knows mine, we are inseparable friends and I will eventually be able to thank it and hopefully get to know it, God permitting.
 
I call my Guardian Angel, “My Friend”; because whenever I’ve needed them, they’ve been there.

Why? How does knowing this benifit you or increase your holiness.
How does asking a prater natural entity it’s name point one towards God?

Now, I inderstand some people including saints have had this revealed to them and I believe it. I also believe in my own guardian angel. And I’m sure they understand that the whole idea kinda creeps me out. I don’t want to know thier name. I’m quite comfortable with our current relationship where I pray he guardian angel prayer and then I am taken care of. I don’t need some “name” to pray to in this situation… I honestly think it could be asking for deception.
 
I have been running into an ad on Facebook that says the guy can tell you the name of your guardian angel --for a fee! I googled what the Church thinks about trying to find the name of your angel. And all these previous posts and even your own, say the same. You don’t need to know and you could be opening the door for a demon. Your faith is in the Lord. Mary and the Holy Spirit advocate for you. The guardian angel is only one way God protects you God is the one you should be thanking. Maybe in Heaven we will meet these overworked beings and reminisce about your craziness! 🙂
 
I not sure what would be gained from knowing the name if one’s guarfisn angel. Our guardian angel us their to try to protect us from evil, would knowing the name of our guardian angel help our guardian angel to protect us?

It is a vanity.

Knowing the name of someone gives you a kind of power over him. Usually, we don’t have any need for this kind of power over the angels.

Manoah’s exchange in Judges 13 demonstrates this.
