I think Sansa’s a pretty name. But I’ve already made up my mind to name any daughter I might have Marina.

I just looked over the list. Yara, Gregor, Leanna, and Martin are not uncommon names in some parts of the world. I know five women named Yara.

Some of the names aren’t totally uncommon. Ned, Robert, Jamie, John, etc… However I’ve seen some of the stranger names in person. Good friend used Khalesei as his daughter’s middle name.

Daenarys is a pretty name, but if I were naming a daughter after her, I’d couple it with a saint’s name. OTOH, if you use your imagination, it could be a highly, highly mutated form of Denis.

I’ve encountered a few Khaleesis in recent years. No Aryas, Cerseis, Joffreys or Tyrions thank goodness …

I wonder if about 10 years ago there were any more children named Don, Betty, Roger, Bobby, Sally , Joan, Peggy, or Henry Francis?

I think Arya would be an amazing name. I mean no one is more deserving of praise on that show then she is. All they do is talk and scheme… she just kicks backside.

One of Pope Alexander VI (Rodrigo Borgias) children was named Joffrey (Gioffre).

What gets me is that Khaleesi isn’t even the character’s name. It’d be like naming a kid “Chieftan” or “Chieftess” or something. But I guess that doesn’t matter.

Arya (or Aria) could be a pretty name, imo.

I don’t know, I’m a big dork when it comes to these books but I can’t imagine using the non-realistic names.

If I had a child one day, Drogon du Toit would probably not be the ideal name.😂

Probably not for a long while. “Sally” and “Betty” sound like secretaries from the 1950s to a modern ear. They’ll be forgotten for awhile, then rediscovered and become trendy again when they seem novel and new.

My husband’s aunt is called Tirion it’s a welsh girl’s name and has been for many many years. And Arya is a very old name too

This happened with Harry Potter, too but it was delayed because of the younger age of the reader. I remember reading post about the Harry Potter Generation growing up “and gettin’ bizay!”

Where I live parents are giving their kids old fashioned names like Pearl, Mabel, Silas.

To be fair, some cultures do do that. And a lot of our names actually mean something like “lord” or “princess” or something, just in another language.

The Arabs sometimes name their children “Amir” or “Amira” which mean “prince” and “princess” respectively.
