‘God, by His Providence, protects all that He has created,’ I.e. He preserves it from relapsing into nothingness. (First Vatican Council…Denzinger 1784).

Six dogmas concerning Mary, rated as ‘De Fide’:

Mary is truly the Mother of God.

Mary was conceived without stain of original sin.

Mary conceived by the Holy Spirit without the co-operation of man.

Mary bore her Son without any violation of her virginal integrity (De Fide on the ground of the general promulgation of doctrine).

After the birth of Jesus Mary remained a virgin.

Mary was assumed body and soul into Heaven.

(c.f.: ‘Fundamentals of Catholic Dogma.’ …Dr. Ludwig Ott).

Why do you think it was phraed so awkwardly? Why not “the participation of a man”? Generally, “man” means something different from “a man.”

And that is not even touching on the role of the Son, fully God and fully man, in he process.

My copy of Ott was first published in 1954. I guess ‘Church-speak’ was a little different then. The important fact is that Mary conceived without having sexual intercourse.
