  1. Catholics in general seem somewhat skeptical concerning those who have been “born-again”…
  2. There isn’t much evangelization going on.
  3. It is too “liberal” (comparatively speaking)… & there are people in the Church who should leave because they don’t believe as the Magesterium teaches.
 
There are too many divisions amongst us based on unimportant things such as Mass preference and worship style.

That’s the main one that I have.
 
I am abundantly filled with joy and unite with the universal church in thanksgiving to God for being renewed during this lent, and especially through the graces of this holy triduum. It is beyond my capacity to contemplate anything negative at this holy time.
 
God’s people support factory farms where billions of God’s creatures suffer every day all for greed. 😦
 
Reverence is being lost for the Presence of Jesus in the Eucharist in our churches.

Many do not genuflect, and they start to chatter and have conversations right after sitting down in church. On Holy Thursday evening, when people were supposed to be exiting the church in silence the deacon had to go to the microphone and remind them that the Blessed Sacrament was in the chapel and that they should exit silently. They had all started to chat quite loudly.

Outside the church is where people should greet one another and have conversation. And, they can make it a point to attend the donut and coffee times offered in the hall occasionally.
 
Liberalism is my biggest peeve. It’s basically protestant ideas creeping into the Catholic arena. But i won’t head off into that tangent…

My other peeve is when people call themselves Catholic, but only believe X, Y, and Z. You’re either Catholic or you’re not. No in between.

So frustrating…

I think you should start studying theology. Begin with the Catechism. You have a faulty understanding of the Holy Trinity, which is the foundation of the Christian faith. I sincerely hope you take my advice and begin to learn the faith. All of the answers to your questions are waiting for you.

I find the more I learn about the faith, the more I am amazed at the beauty and depth of our Lord. Christianity is not an easy faith to understand because it deals with facts outside of our everyday human understanding. No man could have invented Christianity; it is too complex. A man made religion like Islam would be simple and easy to understand. Christianity is not easy to comprehend at times.

none of these refers to The Church, they refer to action or lack of it by individual Catholics. care to revise thread title?

I have no peeve whatever with Holy Mother Church, I like OP have minor petty irritations that crop up at the actions of individual Catholics from time to time. I turn them over to God (or to appropriate authority of they demand an authorotative response) and confine my attention to my own sins and omissions.

no one except Dempsey and Joysong have responded to thread title, and their response is the only correct one.

re: point #3

I would much rather that they remain and change their views so that they are in line with the Magisterium. However, if they choose to remain in opposition to those teachings, I wish they had the integrity to leave the Church.

I would have to say that my biggest peeve is priests who don’ teach the faith from the pulpit. Even if they agree with the Church’s teaching they are afraid of upsetting people.

Lackluster Bishops & Priests that refuse to sheperd the flock. Alot of these border on schismatic. If they would just FEED their sheep it would eliminate alot Cafeteria Catholics & other Liberal nonsense.
 
Why this thread? what is the point of ennumerating all of our peeves?On today of all days?For today maybe we can put away our peeves and bear with one another,please?
 
It’s not really a “peeve,” but a concern.
We have a new ecclesiology now, which is based on something called a “Theology of Communion” rather than the historic view of the Church as a juridical institution with defined parameters.
I personally am confused by the Ecclesiology of Communion which states that non-Catholic churches are “sister churches” (unless they are the eeeeeeeeeeeevvvvillllll SSPX for some reason) even tho they are schismatic. I just don’t understand this new ecclesiology and I don’t find much on the internet going into detail about it AND HARMONIZING it with pre-Vatican II ecclesiology. I’d like to see more magisterial explication of the matter cuz I’m confused by it.

Peeves about what **goes on **at Mass?
Mainly folks coming to church dressed like they are headed for the beach or a picnic. That never used to be tolerated until recent decades/years. I find it disrespectful to the House of God, but that’s just my taste, I guess.

Pet Peeves?

My own inability to always faithfully follow what goes on during Mass (i’ve been known to daydream).

My own inability to stop sinning and be perfect as my Heavenly Father is perfect.

My own inability to focus on the beam in my eye before worrying about the splinter in someone else’s.
 
My pet peeve is the lack of systematic and professional feedback to priests and bishops. I do not mean issues of dogma or faith but rather of formative (as opposed to summative) assessment. For instance, how good are sermons? Do priests really listen to the (name removed by moderator)ut of parish councils? Are they supportive ane accessible? ONCE and ONLY ONCE in my 60 years of living in the Church was any assesment done by a bishop on a diocese wide basis. The questionaire was not the best (I do some of this sort of thing for a living) but it was OK . It produced very useful information for the priests and the bishop. Without feedback there can be no true knowledge and spiritual growth. This is not a rant over dogma or the magisterium but about getting constructive criticism to the church about performance and competency. Secondly, there is very limited use of of the talents and training of the laity when they have expertise which could be of use to the Church. Canon law states that the laity have a obligation to speak to the Church in areas in which the laity have clear expertise. As far as I can tell there is no systematic data base of the talents, credentials and expertise of the loyal and orthodox laity available to pastors or bishops.

That was my first thought when I first saw this thread but, as I thought more about it, I began to think that it could be edifying to seee that others share our concerns.

I guess the only pet peeve I have with the Church today is that we don’t celebrate Easter during the same week as Passover. But that may be my own misunderstanding as to why they chose Easter to be placed as it is, after the full moon after the equinox, which seems pagan in nature.
