Name products you've discovered that work better than their predecessors

silicone oven mitts - they’ve been working much better for me than standard ones. Longer length protects the wrists and they don’t (or at least haven’t yet) worn thru in the most used spots. Old ones I had to be careful where I placed my fingers since some spots had lost their protective qualities 😉

Also haven’t used it myself yet, but there’s a silicone splatter guard out there that doubles as a cookie sheet - now that’s convenient 👍

Agreed. Washers have gone backwards. I trashed a low-water washer with no agitator after a year for a traditional one. Good riddance to bad rubbish. Not all mouse traps are better built.

For better products, the optic mouse was a big improvement over the rolling ball that keeps getting gummed up.

True, but the mouse ball was more fun to play with. You could set up pen caps on your desk and go bowling. 🙂

I like DVRs less than VCRs. I don’t want the cable company tracking what I watch, plus it’s more expensive. Just a personal preference. I didn’t mind the whole fast forwarding and rewinding thing. (But definitely DVDs over VHS tapes if you’re buying something pre-recorded.)

Hand-held game consoles are much better now than their predecessors, though. (Probably the TV-connected ones are better too, but I don’t have one. 🙂 )

Also ham and eggs. Back in the 70’s before factory farming really took off, eggs were *all *‘free range’ with beautiful orange/yellow yolks. And back when ham was not as… pink… but tasted like you’d died and gone to heaven.
 
Contact lenses. They can contain help treat conditions such as dry eye or have tiny weights on them to correct astigmatism. Bi-focal lenses are brilliant; they work way better for me than glasses do. And they are more affordable than years ago which is a bonus.

I have one of those new fangled washers. Hate the thing.

Does it use less water? Sure does!
Does it clean clothes? Nope!

Go figure.🤷

My mom would agree with you big time on that one.

She tried to use cloth on me when I was a baby. Poor quality and not exactly the easiest to use or safe, given that pin to keep it together. She gave it up after being afraid she’d hurt me.

The cloth diapers I have are amazing. They are so easy to use and clean. My mom was blown away when she saw what I had bought. She didn’t want to change diapers when I told her we would be cloth diapering. My aunt said the exact same thing. They’ve since changed their tune about cloth diapers.
Plus, the different colors are super adorable on my kiddos tushies!

Hubby just chimed in with a product that has definitely gotten worse over time.
Anyone bought and tried to use one of those new gas cans that has the safety spout compliant with the new EPA laws?

They are impossible to use. My husband picked up one of the new ones a few years ago and literally spilt more gas on himself then what actually went in the tank.
They are so bad that hubby had to go on eBay and spend twice as much for one of the old gas cans.
There are even YouTube videos to show you how to doctor the spout so it actually will work.

All in the name of being more environmentally safe. Now we have washing machine that use less water but don’t wash clothes and gas can spouts with a safety spout that is so safe you can’t pour the gas out from it.

Yes. I should have included in the title of the thread something like “Effective Small company products that don’t have the Big Corporate ad budgets to make consumers aware that their products exist.” I would change the title if I could.

LOL! I didn’t know my new gas can was supposed to be that way.

It’s slick, great skin conditioning properties, and the scent is divine. The last two times I purchased it for $6.99 and I get at least 6 months out of each tub. Once you whip up the lather it provides a large amount of cushion as well.

We were all sold a bill of goods with those, weren’t we? They’re awful. More expensive than incandescent, and in my house I’m replacing them just as often as the incandescent. :mad:
 
Before: Typical instant coffee.

Now: Starbucks coffee.

I don’t know if some obscure caffeine brand counts as a predecessor but every time I drink a regular Starbucks brew, I am wide awake for three hours straight! :whacky: Pretty strong compared to other brands I’ve had so far. (It’s a pity I can’t drink it as much due to expenses.)
