Name the worst movies ever made

Well, I just sat here and read all of the posts! (Just having a boring day) Only thing I have to say is, I am really surprised how many of the posters have been banned.

Just an off the wall observation.

Hollywood vs TV was a longstanding rivalry. Network was a good movie. But naming it the co-best seemed a little self-serving of the academy. IMO.

When TV was in the ascendant, the movies lost a lot of their previous audience. In 1976 this vote might have been the movie industry’s “payback” - the vilification of TV.

There is now another Bad movie thread. I posted the following there but also wanted to list it here:

Lost Horizon – the musical version. As Bette Midler said, “I never miss a Liv Ulman musical.”

(I love the original, non-musical version from the '30s. It was downright haunting, in a good way. I also generally love musicals. But this one is just…bad. The leads are not known for being singers or dancers. One of them, Olivia Hussey, was obviously pregnant at the time and played a ballerina of all things. The special-effects and the big production numbers are tacky as heck. Great fun to watch when you’re in the mood for a bad movie.)

Reminds me of another bad movie: Camelot. Mainly because again, the leads, including Vanessa Redgrave, are not singers. They do the talk-sing thing (ala Rex Harrison), which detracted from the magic of the story and the songs.

Well it was written by Paddy Chayefski (I’m probably spelling that wrong - should look it up) who as I understand it had an enormous axe to grind because he was in on television as a mass medium from the “ground floor” as a screenwriter and felt it had fallen far short of its potential as a literary form.

I enjoyed “Marty”, and would recommend it. I don’t think “Network” is by any means the worst movie in the history of film but it’s probably very overrated, not to mention dated. I think I get the point (“television as it has been corrupted does such a great job inflaming animalistic passions that it will be the death of all of us”) but this simple message is underwhelming in comparison to all the hyperventilating that it is delivered with.

Silver Chalice isn’t anti catholic as I recall. It takes place in the early days of the church.

Vídeo Brinquedo makes pretty terrible films. And I mean “poorly made knock-offs to trick grandparents into buying them thinking its a Pixar or Dreamworks film” terrible, not “horrible raunch that shows how depraved our culture is” terrible.

There are a lot of terrible animation studios that make terrible cartoons with absolutely no effort put into them soley made to get a quick buck.

Godfather 2… The first one was a real bore that made me glazy-eyed, but the second absolutely took the prize. High Plains Drifter was enjoyable when I watched it in my pre-catholic days, but in retrospect, i can’t imagine how i did watch it, it was filthy and immoral. I do miss watching westerns though, i wonder if there are any Catholic or christian westerns?

best movies has to be shawshank redemption and the green mile. the passion of the christ too. I’ll add that the ‘Believers’, b-movie was good too, if only for how ridiculous it was.

Absolute worst movie ever made hands down Deliverance. The Photography was great, the scenery spectacular, acting and directing superb, but it kicked down the door for profanity in the movie industry, and by default, TV.

“Suits” is on USA right now and, in the first15 minutes we’ve had Gods name used in vain, and the bovine excrement term thrown out. On almost every cable network women are regularly referred to as b***s, people are pied off, and kicking *****es. That being the thin edge of the wedge tune in the movie channels and pay TV. Roughly every third word begins with the letter F. It’s used as a noun, verb, adjective, and adverb, and the use of Gods and Our Lords names are bandied about in wild abandon. Are there really that many people out There, (wherever There is) that like that trash enough to make the production of it profitable.

I’ve done enough swearing, and right I’m now rapidly filling a cussing jar with quarters, that will greatly bolster the parish building fund someday, but the utter saturation of the language on the tube overwhelms me. Two things I guess I will never understand is why anyone would want listen to that or watch porn.

We have anotha contendah! You might want to miss *When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth *(1970) when TCM rolls it out again, unless dinosaurs co-existing with cavewomen clad in fur bikinis is your thing. The screenwriter went all out–a special language was written for the movie: “Akita, akita” (look), “neecro” (evil), etc. I haven’t figured out what “bundie” (sp?) is, but I think, roughly translated, it means “Run, run! There’s a serial killer on the loose!” They do, however, get points for the cute little baby dinosaur

TUSK is getting nominations as the worst movie of 2014. It’s about the Ugly Americans–South American, North American…The hero, a podcaster, constantly mocks and insults everyone. He winds up a prisoner of a walrus fetishist who names his captive “Tusk” after “Tuskegee” something and that’s of course where deadly experimentation on African males took place, Tuskegee University. Got it? The movie is well-written in unveiling all the subtle socially acceptable SEINFELD-esque man’s inhumanity-to-man underlying the gore and torture like an organic offshoot, a grim, unfunny warning to us all to be mindful of small people and small things. Dr. Ewen Cameron, the CIA’s MK ULTRA torture doc from McGill University in Toronto, seems to be caricatured in the character of the cultured Canadian psycho to show Canadians they have a heaping helping of weirdness, too.
