St. Joan of Arc

St. Anthony

St. Jude

Very hard to narrow it to 3.

My top 2 are Mother Mary and St. Joseph 🙂

It’s really hard for me to pick just one for the third spot. I probably pray to St. Therese the most but there are at least half a dozen others whom I also love. St. Therese was my mother’s saint so reaching to her makes me feel closer to Mom since she died.

Ditto about limiting to 3 choices. I most frequently call upon St Anthony of Padua for help in finding things and then repaying prayers answered to St Anthony’s Bread. But he is also a great intercessory to God about many needs. I admire his life and his deep concern for the welfare of others. St. Michael the Archangel is a powerful protector to call on for help and I recite the Chaplet of St. Michael almost on a daily basis to do so. Up until a couple of weeks ago my third choice would have been among those saints previously mentioned by others. Now I have become interested in the life of a Polish saint who lived from 1185 to 1257 called the Apostle of North. His name is St. Hyacinth. He was one of the first Dominicans having been instructed by St. Dominic and receiving his habit in 1220 from St. Dominic himself. He developed a strong devotion to the BVM and attributed his evangelizing and converting multitudes to her. It has been said that he walked thousands of miles during his life time preaching about Jesus and Mary. He had an apparition of Mary and died on Aug 15th after saying the mass for her feast day. There are other fascinating miracles and legends attributed to him but none more uniquely Polish then that he is the patron saint of the pierogi, a very tasty Polish food that my mother in law used to make. He was a major factor in bringing Christianity across northern Europe and I feel lacking that I had never even heard of him despite my Catholic schooling from elementary to high school and nursing school. Look him up and then go buy some pierogi to eat during Lent for your meatless meal.

St Luke.

He not only wrote the Gospel but also the Book of Acts. It is possible he also wrote Hebrews.

He recorded a great many sayings of Jesus and events especially connected with the Blessed Virgin.

He wrote in an educated Greek through which his self effacing humility is evident. As a doctor accompanied and treated Paul on some of his travels.

They are great saints! I also pray to St. Anthony when I lose something. He’s very helpful. 🙂

I’ve "discovered ’ (i.e. new to me) St. Roch who is the patron saint against plague and epidemics. He’s also the patron saint of dogs due to his interesting story. He lived during the time of the Black Plague and tended to those afflicted with the plague. He was credited with the miraculous cures of many people. Eventually he contracted the disease and then isolated himself in a forest to die. Through the intervention of his Guardian Angel by the aid of a dog to give him food, he survived. There is a beautiful painting by Claude Simpol depicting this story if you care to search for it. I just think it is serendipitous to find a medieval saint relevant for our own time. St. Roch pray for us in this time of pestilence. Amen. Philippians 4:6.🙏😊

I’d like to learn more about the countless saints there are, but, for now I’d say:
St Therese of Liseux
St. Teresa of Avila
St. Thomas More
Special shout out to St. Anthony for his constant help…
