Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) – House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is responding to criticism from Catholic leaders who say she recently misrepresented the pro-life teachings of the Catholic Church in a recent interview. Pelosi said the Church did not have longstanding policies on abortion and the beginning of human life.

I’m sure the VP nominee’s Catholicism was taken into consideration when he was chosen but Pelosi’s comments just underscore the problem with having a pro-abortion Catholic on the ticket. There is no rational way to square a belief in abortion with what Catholicism teaches and the more they try to more apparent the gulf between the two positions becomes. This can’t be a good thing for a party trying to woo the Catholic vote.

Pelosi is still dodging the issue by trying to maintain that it is all about “when life begins”.

The fact is that when life begins is irrelevant, and Pelosi is holding onto that as if it mattered, as well as claiming that the level of knowledge held 1,600 years ago can still be held as valid today.

That is no different from claiming that the earth is not round, because the flat–earth concept came first.

As is to be expected, the archbishop is correct in pointing our Pelosi’s error in attempting to support & justify evil.

Given that he is not only an ordained successor of the apostles, & that he recognizes that Catholic doctrine cannot & does not change, I find the archbishop far more credible than Pelosi.

Yeh,and the Demoncrate party lost the civil war…of course they did not…it was a solid south on 1860 and it was on 1865 and to this present day…so this gal is like the Kennedy clan…they are the true haters…in the Hypocratic oath there is or was a stand against abortion…it stands to reason…(oops, watch it) that since the mom is but a temporary host she has no right to kill the developing baby inside of her…and so this Pelosi likes to smirk and insult as did the Kennedy clan,Guiliani etc etc…they claim to be tolerant but instead of admitting they hate the Catholic church and all it stands for, they ‘stay in’ to get away with insulting it and also us of course…as to the one issue…back again to 1860 there was one major issue…the expansion of slavery, the demoncrates wanted to get more of the new states entering the Union ,to be slave states, that way their rep in congress increases proportionatly…its quite simple…just instruct the parish that these phony catholics attend that the ushers are to inform the politician that they can stand in line but will not receive the sacred host but rather just a powerful sign of the cross and a mild move along shove…so as to not cause a scene! Biden of course is another one that is intolerant and insults us all the time…say, notice how these peace activists only picket when America is in the ‘wrong’ but never when Russia is…as in Giorgia…mmmmmmmmm

Only rarely will the truth deter a politician from pursuing his or her agenda. That agenda is the increase and consolidation of power and truth is among the first casualties in the battle for power.

I am trying to think of an instance when a politician admitted a long held postion was wrong and appologized for using false arguements to justify it. Neither my BA in history, graduate studies, or lengthy life experience has provided me with even one example. Maybe one of you knows one.

Admitting that one is wrong is not in the DNA of a politician. 🙂

This is merely a tired, garden-variety case of presupposing what she is claiming to prove. If the stakes weren’t so high it would be entertaining.

Pelosi says one thing, supposedly based on what the Church teaches.

The Church says another.

I err with the Church.

I have only one word for people who facilitate the culture of death: Excommunication!👍

How can someone eat at the table of the Lord, while eating at the table of devils?

In one of my past occupations we had a rather inept leader. It was commented that not only did he continually stick his foot in his mouth, but he persisted in kicking it with the other foot to drive it deeper. 😃

Read the two-page letter, a separate document, but on-line appears as pages 4 and 5 of the bulletin for August 30-31, 2008.
It’s wonderful to see our priest defend our teachings against error. I enjoyed a wonderful homily today about Ms. Pelosi’s comments…he held up a Catechism and the Compendium and stated “there is no excuse for a Catholic to not know what the Church teaches in regards to human life.”

His homily was met with great applause!

Speaker Pelosi has embarassed herself again. Unfortunately its not the first time nor will it be the last. You would think that the voters in California would finally have the sense to turn her out of office.

Thank god for the strong statements coming from some Bishop’s around the country and the USCCB. On Sept. 5th we will be able to see what her Archbishop Niederauer has to say about Nancy. Check out the Archdiocese of San Francisco’s website.

Fair point. Should pro-death penalty Catholic politicians be excommunicated as well?
The Church is currently OK with the death penalty.

Although I am against the death penalty in the U.S., I do think it’s needed in other countries which do not have sophisticated prison systems to protect other inmates.
