Narcissistic mother-in laws- How to handle them and protect yourself?

When I was getting married, I didn’t have a great relationship with my in-laws. For example, they always resented me because I didn’t ask them for their daughters hand in marriage. I wouldn’t let it get to you though. In-Laws are strange creatures, they feel like they need to control you because you’re with one of their children. I don’t have answers on how to deal with them. My wife left me, the only good thing about that is that I don’t have to see my in-laws anymore.
