To prove I can ignore the political bull and stay on topic:

I saw Narnia twice. It held together until the last fight, which was a nap aid. I have the collected book and will wait for the DVD set as I am waiting for the Potter DVD set.
You have more patience than I do! Considering the other 6 books may or may not be filmed, it could be a very long wait, indeed! 😃

But seriously, we bought the DVD but I haven’t had the chance to see it until this evening, which I am looking forward to. I do agree the end battle and the end itself is a bit dull, but then we knew what was coming, didn’t we? The same could be said of LOTR, although I cried my eyes out the first few times I saw it because I knew poor Frodo’s fate, which has always broken my heart.

Frodo’s path was so much more potent and real than the cliched “sad” endings we get forced on us so often.

I thought the battles were pretty exciting for the films rating (wouldnt mind an extended Narnia like LOTR if such an edition exists)

With the proper writers, they may be able to condense the books into a total of 4 or 5 movies and still bring the spirit out like in the LOTRs movies even though stuff was changed from the books.

Is the Potter series gonna be as many films as books?

Potter will have the entire series made.

At least 3 characters in LOTR were christological types: Frodo, Aragorn, and Gandalf.

Frodo by the Via Dolorosa of his long march to Mordor and “death” and “ascension” when he went on the ship to the Everlasting Lands.

Aragorn in his self-sacrifice at the Gates of Mordor as he put himself in harms way and his kingship in jeopardy in order to give Frodo his chance to destroy the ring.

Gandalf’s fight with the Balrog in which he died and was brought back to life, as a more powerful representative of the Eldar, and the head of his order.

And those are just for starters. Tolkien’s spirituality may be more hidden, but it is also deeper and richer than Lewis’, although I do appreciate very much what Lewis accomplished by writing the Chronicles.
Hi Della,

Although I see your point on Gandalf, I think Frodo and Arargon are stretches. I do not mean to upset any of the Lord of the Rings fans here. I know how passionate you all are about it. However, in the words of Austin Powers “It just aint my bag, baby!” :dancing:

Does anyone think that Aslan was sort of messed up in the movie? He just didn’t seem as mysterious and wise as he should have (to me anyways).

Impossible to move the qualities of literature t a movie when it involves the mysterious, because it requires you to see it and not imagine it.

No, they could have made Aslan more mysterious by quoting from the book a little more. For example, when the children first meet Aslan, he is supposed to know all about Edmund and the problems between the siblings. He basically draws out a confession from Peter, leading the latter to admit that he was hard on Edmund. This leads to the viewer wondering how Aslan knew such things. Just my :twocents: 🙂

Eh, as a huge scholar of literature and writing, I would not agree, but to each his own.

I’m not saying that books do not convey emotions better than films. On the contrary, I love books because they have so much more to offer. However, movies do have techniques to generate certain emotions in the audience. 😉
