I’ve been watching Naruto with my cousin for the last several months since she recommended it to me. We are well into the original series and close to finishing it, but one thing I’ve been questioning lately is this: there are occasional scenes and depictions that are sometimes inappropriate (the way some female characters are portrayed, sexualized, etc.), and I’m wondering if it is sinful to continue watching a show like this.
These scenes are few and far between, and overall I think that the show has great themes and messages, specifically friendship, perseverance, fighting for what you believe is right, etc. I also make it a point to avoid looking at the screen if there any scenes that I feel are inappropriate. I’ve searched through the web for some advice on this (Naruto in particular but also anime in general), including previous threads here on the CA Forums, but opinions are mixed.
