Nation of Islam fundraising

I don’t know if this is the exact forum for this, but I had a question about contributing to non-Catholic religions (I am Catholic by the way). On the way to school every day, there are always some Nation of Islam guys selling black-power literature and navy bean pies on the street.
Is it in any way sinful for me to buy pies from these men, knowing full well that I am contributing $3 to a religious/political cause many consider anti-Catholic?

My guess is that you’re not really contributing but buying. And, if that’s the case, what would be the difference between that and if you walked into a Muslim-owned local Subway, for example, and bought a sandwich? Each one wants to make a profit from you.

I think the important thing is that we are discussing the Nation of Islam and not a mainstream Muslim organization. I wouldn’t want to support the racism and bigotry of the Nation of Islam in any manner.

You’re right. Perhaps I was splitting hairs in trying to differentiate between contributing and buying, but that’s really a moot point.

I believe it would be venially sinful, unless you were buying stuff in order to support them, in which case I would say mortally singul. I myself wouldn’t do it, and I’d advise against it. God Bless.

Well speaking purely objectively, NOI does do a lot of good in some inner city neighborhoods, emphasizing the importance of responsible fatherhood, etc. Plus, any religion provides some kind of alternative for people to escape the life of violence and drugs (if not a path to true salvation). Racist yes, and I don’t support their religious or political views, but I wouldn’t dismiss it as just a black KKK.

They are very racist. Where I live they won’t even look at you in your car if you’re white…personally, I wouldn’t want to have anything to do with them…

I live within a mile of a growing mosque. The Muslims are bidding the prices up of homes within the area. Would anyone here hesitate to sell the Muslims their house for an above-market price, especially knowing that they can buy another further away at sub-market price now?

The KKK also has social outreach programs and there are various White Supremacist groups that have a very solid “socially conservative” platform and action programs…that doesn’t make up for the hatred they spread…Hitler liked dogs…just because evil puts on various faces that appeal to you doesn’t mean you approve the evil…NOI is RACIST…a hate group.
