I know this has been discussed here somewhere, but what’s the orthodoxy of The National Catholic Register.

I did a search but get all kinds of hits that aren’t pertinent.

Thanks

Solid. Great paper.

I’ve heard the National Catholic Register is the good one and the National Catholic Reporter is the “less-than-good” one.

National Catholic Register - great, orthodox and informative. I subscribe to it and have been impressed. I wish more would read it.

National Catholic Reporter - heretical

Exactly. 👍

THANKS! That’s exactly what I was looking for (and the source of my confusion)

I have subscribed to the Register for about 6 months now and I love it - very solid!

Yep, the Register is good! Reporter is (or used to be) quite liberal!

I subscribed to the Register with misgivings - afraid it would be too conservative for me - but have really enjoyed it. I find it to be really balanced and fair.

One interesting thing - a month of so ago, around the time of the Hiroshima anniversary, they printed an editorial condemning the dropping of the bombs. They received a lot of hate mail. They later printed a response to these negative responses that was very articulate and true to the teachings of the Chruch. They got more hate mail! They did get some support but the hate mail outnumbered the positive remarks. I was with them (The Register & the Church) 100%! 👍

Friends:

The National Catholic Register is orthodox. It is an apostolate of the Legionaries of Christ. I’ve met the Legionaries and their lay group called Regnum Christi. We should pray for this order and lay org. for they are on fire and orthodox. From what I last gathered they have over 2500 seminarians. One of my former students when I was teaching became a seminarian. If you’ve never heard of the Legionaries you will in the near future. They are going to move mountains for Christ. They remind me of the beginnings to the Jesuits. Unfortunately the same slander that St. Josemaria Escriva of Opus Dei is getting is also received by their founder Fr. Macial Maciel. But I’m not worried for truth will eventually rise to the top.
