I wasn’t sure where to post this question so I brought it here since it stems from an obviously NC source.

Got a copy of “National Sunday Law” by A. Jan Marcussen - unsolicited - in the mail a couple of days ago and am curious as to who this person is affiliated with.
Needless to say I didn’t bother to read the thing after a quick perusal showed it to be simply a hideous diatribe against The Catholic Church.

The thing that really burns me about these kinds of things is that the authors don’t have the decency to state what group they are affiliated with. It would appear this one is either SDA or JW, but nowhere in the front or back of the book does it say.

Such drivvel in no way plays upon the true Christian faith of Love, but rather upon the shallow, paranoid, and conspiritorial tendancies of some people. Pray God that no true Christian is swayed by such obvious evil.

Well, one thing you could do is get the return address off the mail container and send a copy of your favorite Catholic apologetics work to them.
 
This is one of the paranoid fantasies of Ellen G. White which was elevated to dogma by the Seventh Day Adventist Church.

Worries about an NSL are a SDA item (including groups that have split from them).​

Use it as a doorstop or cat-litter 🙂
 
Just goes to show how wrong Ellen G. White was. Sunday worship is far more likely to be made illegal than to become mandatory.

I figured it was probably SDA, especially after seeing a convert from SDA on “The Journey Home” Program.

I thought about that, but the person on “The Journey Home” indicated that such tactics are not the best course since they are so paranoid against anything NOT SDA. Our best course is to Love them and pray for them.

My Christian life, a decade old now, has had about four distinct phases – Prechurch, Evangelical Friends, Nondenominational/Pentecostal, Catholic (and through with my wandering). During the Nondenominational/Pentecostal phase, there were the following periods – No denomination, just a community, Church joining a denomination: before I understood what was expected, Church joining a denomination: I got the idea, and Souring on the denomination, considering leaving.
During the Got the idea period, I found a secondhand book and the title sounded familiar. I read it at home. It said the Catholic HCurch had developed most of its doctrines recently, and though the storyline seemed a little suspect, it affected me. I was exposed to plenty of anti-Catholic propaganda, some more convincing, some less so. The little book would have bounced right off me except that I had heard it referred to as a Christian classic. I thought, wow, this is weird, I wouldn’t have thought these things possible. I called up a friend and told her the book had clinched it for me; I couldn’t be Catholic. Despite the barrage of anti-Catholic stuff I was surrounded by, somewhere in my heart I wanted to keep that option just in case. Anyway, my friend agreed. I decided just for the sake of being responsible, I ought to find out what I could about the author and publishing company. Anyone can publish a book, yet many readers assume something wouldn’t be in print if it weren’t at least based on something solid.:rolleyes: It didn’t say who the author was, or the publisher, anywhere. Not a logo, not a clue. I looked it up online by title. SDA. A book straight from E.G. White herself. I threw it away. After that all propaganda that came my way got a serious grilling.
In that process I discovered that not only the anti-Catholic stuff but the whole theology and slang and the rest of my church life was under serious criticism by other Christians and that I really should find out why we were sure we were right. And that was a big part of what led me to the information that started my journey into the Catholic Church. :signofcross: Thank you, Lord.
I see National Sunday Law booklets in phone booths a lot. I ignore them, never read one, and I even read the JW mags in laundry rooms at times. I like to read.
 
I read about this on a website (name escapes me sorry) that I think was an off-shoot of SDA.

If my memory serves me correctly, they claimed that National Sunday Law will be enforced by Pope Benedicts successor, who they claim will be a re-incarnation of Pope John Paul II.

This Pope will be the Anti-Christ who will force all beleivers to worship on Sundays, thus providing them with the mark of the beast. According to the website, any believers that worship on a Saturday will be persecuted as stated in Revelation etc etc…

If I can remeber the name of the website, I’ll post it!
