9 Sep 2020.

An ammo shortage is being witnessed nationwide as Americans react to civil unrest by buying up firearms and the ammunition needed to use them for self-defense.

Gun store shelves in Arizona, long covered with box upon box of ammunition for sale, now host but a smattering of ammunition, and at a much higher price because of the product’s scarcity.

The Minneapolis Star Tribune reports the same shortage is evident throughout Minnesota.

Oakdale gun store owner David Bean said, “Manufacturers can’t keep up with the demand anymore. The industry’s never been hit this hard before.”

And Stock & Barrel Gun Club executive vice president Kevin Vick observed, “[People] have seen firsthand that law enforcement is not always going to be there to protect them.”

West Texans are witnessing the same run on ammunition. . . .

. . . Remember, the shortage in ammunition comes as background checks for gun sales were at record-setting levels for eight straight months. In other words, a record for monthly background checks was set every month January 2020 through August 2020. . . .

. . . National Shooting Sports Foundation’s (NSSF) public affairs director Mark Olivia told Breitbart News:
The surge in gun sales is having a corresponding effect on ammunition. NSSF estimates there are nearly 5 million first-time gun buyers in 2020. That also means there are 5 million new ammunition buyers who are learning to use their firearms. There are 5 million new people looking for ranges for safe, recreational shooting. There are 5 million new gun owners filling up classes at their local ranges for instruction.

Manufacturers are working to meet this demand, but it is undeniable that concern for personal safety is having an effect on the availability of ammunition . . .

Shelves of popular calibers are completely cleaned out around where I live.

Scary times indeed.

Undoubtedly folks are seeing what’s happening in Portland, Seattle, New York, Chicago, Kenosha, etc. and are getting worried that it could be coming to their town.

@cathoholic, what are you hoping we take away from you post?

This is not a surprising piece of information:
  1. Democratic party has been in favor of gun control for years
  2. Democratic party seems to not to be overly concerned about riots and looting in cities they control
  3. Recent riots and looting events have shown the police cannot be counted on to protect the citizenry
  4. Democratic candidate for president is leading in the polls
So…now we see a story about ammo shortage…which is the logical result of items 1-4

  • Democratic party has been in favor of gun control for years
  • Democratic party seems to not to be overly concerned about riots and looting in cities they control
  • Recent riots and looting events have shown the police cannot be counted on to protect the citizenry
  • Democratic candidate for president is leading in the polls
  1. I think they’ve moved from gun control to confiscation.
  2. More complicit in than not overly concerned.
  3. told to stand down in some places.
  4. it’s closing.

Stocking up on ammo is useless, unless you have the following.
  1. A group of armed men you can trust.
  2. Working knowledge of small unit tactics.
  3. Defined conditions under which you plan to use your firearms.
  4. A plan for potential interference with your human and civil rights by politically hostile DA’s

Question…if ammo is stored in a dry location, how long is considered ok to use?

Buyin’ ammo and readin’ Breitbart. Great combination for Real Americans! 🇺🇸

This is sort of Old news, in the sense that it has been growing steady this year. Began to creep with the Lockdowns and Covid, already making it difficult to purchase due to demand.

Then came the riots.

And here we are.

For most of the Obama presidency, Republicans were telling me that he was going to confiscate my guns.
Guess who still has ( and legally) every single one?

As I recall, O’Rourke said, yes, they’d come after guns.
As I recall, Biden said he would put O’Rourke in charge of gun policy.
Do you think they’ve changed their minds?

You must be a military man?

I will say in Australia those with gun permits are stocking up on ammo, I think its a hoarding thing, a bit like toilet paper.

Here we need permits and a good reason for a gun, ie belonging to a gun club or being in a rural area. My kids have guns. My son said he was out buying ammo up. I think the gun club is worried that it will be all gone before they can have their comps. Here also guns have to be stored away from ammo and both in locked cupboards bolted to the floor. Only he is allowed to know where the key is, not even his wife is meant to know 🙂

I did not serve, my father and brother and various ancestors did, we had an ANZAC. My son and his wife march in the ANZAC parade yearly , its become huge amongst the younger generation. Nice to see. My daughter in law has a nephew who has just joined the navy and there is a neice in the air force.

You recall incompletely. He said he’d go after AK-47s & AR-15s. Hardly confiscating all our guns.

Besides which, this was AFTER all those years of “Obama’s going to take our guns!!!” So what Beto said has nothing to do with that.

The latest generation in the military will probably have to make China behave itself before too much longer the way it is going.

Where did you serve?

AR-15s are civilian semiautomatic rifles. The distinction between these and other semiautomatic rifles is, by and large, cosmetic.
Incrementalism at work.
AR-15s are also the most commonly held rifle in America by far. “In common use” is the description the Heller decision uses to distinguish firearms that cannot be confiscated.

Last I saw, Obama is not running for president.
Biden is, and he said he would put Beto in charge of gun control.
