Doesn’t matter if Tim was devout or not. He was baptised in the faith. That makes him Catholic
I think trying to live in the Catholic Faith is what makes one a Catholic.

Many people were baptized who don’t even believe in God anymore. Hitler was raised as a Catholic and then sent Catholic priests to Dachau and Mauthausen for teaching aspects of Catholicism that were at odds with Nazi ideology. You could hardly call Hitler a Catholic.

You could hardly call Hitler a Catholic.
What happened to “once a Catholic, always a Catholic?” My children would like to be officially non-Catholic, but since we baptised them, they are stuck.

So we’re stuck with people like Hitler & McVeigh being Catholics. Tho the press loves descriptions such as “devout Catholic” and “former altar boy.” 🤷

Look. I think the main difference is this. When Muslims blow up things they’re usually doing it to spread Islam. To make it more dominant.

When people who just happen to have been baptized Catholic do radical things they are almost never ever doing it to spread the Catholic Church deeper and wider. I mean I can’t really think of a recent case.

I mean the best comparison might be to link Catholics of maybe 600 or more years ago with Muslims of today. That might be the closest line up possible.

I don’t know.

Peace.

Guess I just think of Ireland as a political war. But maybe it was a religious one mainly? With priests goading on the foot soldiers. Reminding them of certain scriptures to keep them up in the fight? Hoping to gain more ground each day to put under their sway?

Or are you talking about Yugoslavia? Was that a Catholic thing in action? Or didn’t it largely get stomped out by Christian nations working together?

I mean we’ve had immigration from Ireland for a long time. And from all of Europe really. And not once have those characters started up violent action anywhere near the scale of Muslims in order to bring the US under their religious blanket. I have a hard time thinking of a Catholic bunch getting all hot about beheading a group of civilian Hindus in order to build a nice big church on their lands. Or when was the last time any Christian group gathered up all the aide volunteers and cut them down to size according to which religion motivated them to kneel?

So from my view it’s a long mile sideways to imagine a world writhing under the push of a Catholic extreme running around and blowing themselves up for the glory of God. So I guess I’m not sure here. I think Islam still has a problem. And we have to creep awfully far and wide to cobble together enough evidence to even suggest that Catholicism has that same level of trouble.

Am I saying all Muslims are this or that? Nope. But until this silent majority of nice Muslims that we’re always hearing about rise up as one and strangle off this radical few I don’t see how we’re supposed to just relax. I mean as long as they’re leaving it mainly up to us to deal with the problem we can’t really just mind our own business on this can we?

Peace Jharek. I’m glad you’re here to give another side on this. I need you to keep prodding me if I seem to be jumping to the wrong conclusions.

"Native Americans have controversially called for a complete ban on Christians of any denomination entering the US until representatives can ‘figure out what the hell is going on.’

“Seriously, you guys have screwed this place up,” said Chief Simon with Williams

“Two world wars, I don’t know how many ‘minor conflicts,’ mass-shootings, Adam Sandler, toy dogs, the Star Wars prequels. Ryan Adams covering Taylor Swift, MacDonalds; I mean, all this is bad enough but now you unleash Donald Trump on us?”

“I’m sorry, it’s extreme but we have to say enough is enough.”

The call for a ban has been seen as highly provocative to an already incredibly violent religious group who’s more extreme wings are responsible for some of the worst mass-killings in US history.

“Hey, some of my best friends are Christians,” said the Chief.

“And they are good people, seriously. But until we figure out a way to tell the nice ones from the hate-filled, bigoted, war-mongering mass-killers then we’ve got to look after ourselves.”

If the ban was put in place, it would affect such world figures such as the Pope, Bono, and Bill Turnbill, and open up the US to accusations of being profoundly silly.

The chief was conciliatory, “True words, I don’t want the US looking silly. Okay, if we can’t ban all Christians, then let’s just ban Donald Trump?”

Okay it is written tongue in cheek. :rotfl::rotfl:

I think the only reason you jest is because not enough folks have died here and that the threat is minimal, and acceptable otherwise.

Another words, if things got worse, you might have a different tune. Easy to jest when one feels ‘safe’.

Blessings

PS. It is a catch 22. Do things wrongly and it could backfire. Fact is good Muslims believe in jihad being holy and that one day all will bow to Allah. The only reason we call them good is because they do not think now is the time, and for now live peaceably. Putting ‘pressure’ on them may make them police themselves better , but it may also psuh some over the edge to going “bad” (which is still good Islamically speaking).

Timothy McVeigh is hardly a picture of devout Catholicism.
I was just answering the question. Of course there are differences. There always are some differences. It is what makes applying the Golden Rule tricky, yet we do the best we can. The satire of the original post helps remind us to be consistent in our thinking.

Hey, I’m Australian we laugh in any situation. We have something called a sense of humor. 😃 We don’t take ourselves too seriously. This is a satire thread, you want to get serious, go and start another thread.

Smiley added for the humor-impaired.
Just before reading Eric’s post I was thinking, why are there so many people who want to turn something light-hearted into political/religious rants? To quote (I hope accurately) from a favorite movie, “What is it with you people!?” (Tony in Tenth Kingdom)

With a list of smilies. Probably should have been put in the OP to avoid confusion.

Probably. But still - common sense, as well as a sense of humor seems to be lacking! While many body parts can be transplanted, neither common sense nor a sense of humor can be. Which is unfortunate. 😦

How many people without a sense of humour does it take to change a light bulb?

One. And that’s not funny!

i lack both sense and humor so any help on the two is greatly appreciated.

10/4 rubber ducky

My aforementioned friend calls it “Dine” (there’s supposed to be an accent mark over the ‘e’, but I don’t know how to do that), and apparently it’s very complex–he said pretty much if you aren’t speaking it from birth, you’ll never really get it, and any native speaker will spot you a mile away.
My friend at work is Navajo and he has a hard time speaking it. What you said has truth.
