Native Peace Pipe after Consecration

Recently, I was talking with a close friend at work. He is a Hindu from India. I asked him what his reaction would be if at the temple he attends, the guru (celebrant) read some Christian scriptures during a Hindu ceremony and then draped a crucifix around the statue of Krishna.

The look of his face was one of utter confusion and not a little horror. He said, “I suppose we would think he had lost his mind and some of us would try to move him away from the altar before he could further profane both faiths. If he was in his right mind, why would he try to mingle two totally different religions?”
I am Roman Catholic, and I do not think God changes his mind about other Religions according to the fashion of the times.

I do not believe God wants to mingle religions, but to have people who belong to other religions converted into ours.

The number of people who are Roman Catholics around the world today is a remarkable achievement from the past of our Church, the modernist plan will fail to convert more people into the Roman Catholic Church, and will endanger the expansion of Catholicism in the future.

Other religions are not doing this, why do we have to?

I’m glad I have returned to an Eastern Rite Parish and don’t have to witness this type of nonsense anymore.
In the “Eastern Rite Parish” I sometimes attend half the faithful (95% are disgruntled Latin Rite Catholics) have bleeding ulcers from the consternation caused by Father having flowers on the altar. While it most certainly is not allowed, I feel deeply sorry for these people. They lack what I have heard termed a “quiet soul.” Very unhealthy. The East is no panacea.

Would it need to be the Holy See? It sounds from the GIRM as if this is an episcopal call. As the CCCB maintains an Aboriginal Council which is established to, among other things: “promote Aboriginal People’s culture and traditional celebrations within the context of the Catholic faith,” it seems at least plausible that this was done with appropriate oversight…
No, it would be the entire CCCB voting either allowing it, or not allowing it. A single bishop, or even a sub-commitee\council acting on their own. It would have to be a vote of the entire conference.

At the Chrism mass in Sudbury, Ontario, a native women came onto the alter after the consecration with a peace pipe and passed it around. The Bishop and all priests on the alter smoked from the peace pipe, and then they proceeded to the “Peace of Christ” prior to communion.
Is this Liturgically correct?
never go to this church again. there is nothing Biblical that im aware of that states to use this. its Sad that some places(seems to be outside the U.S) have taken liberties with the new order mass and have totally gone bananas. As an example i saw on youtube that a church for easter vigil during the Gloria used a pagan drum and everyone was holding hands in a circle yelling.

i hate when they ring the bells that are used at consecration during the gloria. its a disorganized and nonrhythmic mess.

The way some people complain about incense, I cannot fathom the calls to scream about tobacco smoke!

But it wouldn’t make sense for a diocese that has no Native Canadian communities in it to partake of it, just those that actively minister to Native Canadians.

If the entire CCCB voted for it, yes. Then each bishop could choose to implement it or not. But a single Canadian bishop could not institue it by himself.

In theory, the local bishop could request a special indult from Rome. In my personal opinion, I think such a thing would be unlikely however, because a “peace pipe” is so fundamentally different from what is described in the Roman Missal as the sign of peace. Not impossible, but in my opinion very unlikely.

Hey, fair’s fair! If they can smoke the Native American Pipe of Airborne Gossamer Clouds of Theological Mystery (or whatever the current PC term for it is these days), I want to be able to smoke a Nestor Placencia Reserve maduro from the presider’s chair our of a ruby-studded St. Remy golden ashtray after a particularly fine homily.
