Nativity of John the Baptist: He must increase; I must decrease

Our pastor mentioned this in his homily tonight. I thought I’d pass it on.

John the Baptist said of Jesus…

He must increase; I must decrease. (John 3:30)

The Feast of the Nativity of the Lord is January 25, four days after the shortest day of the year. The length of day increases after this feast. The feast of the Nativity of John the Baptist is June 24, three days after the longest day of the year. The length of each day decreases after this feast.

This is why I love our Church. Even the yearly cycles of the seasons and the ebb and flow of the length of days is used to give glory to God.

Very cool reflection, but isn’t the nativity of the Lord Dec 25? 🙂
