From a Natural Family Planning blog I regularly read:

nfpworks.wordpress.com/2007/10/09/childfree-selfishness-incarnate-or-saavy-living/#comments

This blogger is a very kind and lovely lady, deeply Catholic and very much devoted to Natural Family Planning. She wrote an article exposing the evil of the “childfree” movement, that is, people who don’t have kids and who often resort to sterilization in order to stay that way. I’m not even talking about people who have a few kids getting sterilized due to poor health. These are young people in their twenties and thirties, who are doing it!

So the blogger wrote what I agree is a mild-mannered exposay of these (mostly athiest) types, and they descended like locusts on her blog to vilify her for her Catholic beliefs. I vagely knew these people exist (my brother appears to be marrying one SIGH) but I had no idea they were this openly hostile to specifically Catholics.

What’s next protesting in front of children’s hospitals?

How did all these people find her blog? My goodness. My blog is set up so that I post only those answers that I want to. This means that I have to preread any answers to my posts but it helps me keep potentially rude comments off my blog.

I have been lucky, thus far I’ve only had to keep ads off my blog. I wonder if this woman has the ability to preread what is posted on her blog.

I wonder how many are the same entity.

This happened back in early November. Looks lie these people managed to shut her down.

People do not like it when someone reminds them about a the part of their conscience they have been trying to suppress. Few people get more angry than the unrepentant who pretend to be innocent and then someone reminds them of their guilt.

How do you close down a blog? I didn’t know that anyone could do that. Do you just bombard it with posts, or do all the posts have to be negative?

Here is the homepage for the blog:

Judging from the last couple entries (which were in November) it appears that the blogger may have been simply overwhelmed.

Calling people’s lifestyle “evil incarnate” is hardly mild-mannered.

One of the things that disturbs me about our society is the way verbal criticisms are seen as a form of violence. This is true on both sides. The blogger expressed a strong opinion, and the “childfree” folks responded with equal rancor. Both sides felt passionately about the subject, and that’s fine. But I can’t see that anyone is doing violence to anyone or shutting anyone down. All the blogger had to do was turn off comments on her blog.

And similarly, the idea of this vast army of “childfree” folks descending on one poor blog just because she criticized their lifestyle is pretty ridiculous. And they all responded so indignantly to the idea that they were not being “moderate” and “reasoned”. . . .

It’s a free society. We can all disagree without killing each other. Can’t we?

Get Haloscan and make liberal use of the ban and delete features. 👍

Where can I get that? Does it work on CAF?
If your blog is on google then you don’t have to post any comment that offends you. I have that feature on my blog. That was why I was curious about how the blog was shut down. I thought maybe she was physically shut down from sheer number of comments(is that possible)

Rude comments just need to be deleted before they get posted. You just skim your comment section before you allow them to post. It is fairly simple.

I am guessing that whoever this woman has a blog with, she doesn’t have the ability to delete comments.

Personally, I haven’t had to delete any comments. Even the people who disagree with me are pretty polite. But then again, posting on CAF gives me a tough skin.😛

Ok I just saw this post and decided I had to say something. First of all her post was ANYTHING but mild mannered. I mean is calling childfree folk like myself evil incarnate and narcasstic and childhaters mild mannered? Not to mention it makes no sense that she calls us narcassitic and self loathers at the same time…And really though if she didn;t want to hear people disagree with her why in the world would she let the general public post in there!? But heck if I had found that blog way back when that post was written I would have been tempted to give her a piece of my mind too! Though I would have tried to be nice about it…and really most of the posts weren;t nasty or anything they just just really disagreed with the woman and they gave good reasons for disagreeing with her!

Oh and I should also add it seems that she wasn;t shutdown just away for a bit there is a recent entry on march 13 08 so all those worrying that the “evil hordes of childfree” shut her down can stop worrying…

I wonder who was this lady’s audience? Was she writing to try and fire up the NFPers about the evils of the childfree movement, or was she trying to convince the childfree types of the errors of their ways? She certainly got the attention of the childfree community, but did it convince anyone? I really don’t know the answer to my question, perhaps someone else here is smarter than me and can comment.

This doesn’t seem to me to be a big deal…when you put something out there in cyberspace, especially on a blog, it’s opened up to all kind of kooks to respond.

Under Seige? It could just be a handful of bloggers slamming her blog.

Not surprising, not really news either. 🤷

Having been on this green earth for over 70 years, I would have to say that the “childfree” are not the only folks who can legitimately have that label attached to their favorite attitude. It would seem there is plenty of “zealot” to go around. People make decisions based on their value system and they do not like being attacked in a personal way with attributes like selfish, stupid, self-centered , godless, etc.Such name calling seldom if ever changes minds and in most cases drives people into a more hardened position.
