If a Christian is able to resist the temptation to associate nudity with sexuality, is naturism acceptable (but perhaps discouraged?) within the Catholic Church?

I’m almost positive there is nothing wrong with appreciating nudity in art, but do the rules change once you speak of non-artistic social nudity?

Well, if there is any possibility of temptation, as far social nudity goes, for the general person, than I’m pretty sure it is very frowned upon by the Church.

Nudity in art is acceptable, but barely. Any members who come by this post, please, correct me I am wrong. I’m quite rusty, 😉 but I know the Sin of Lust contains the largest list of what not to do. 😛

:twocents: I personally think it varies from person to person, though. Some people are outraged at the thought of social nudity, others are rather lenient; those opinions tend to leak into Catholic teaching. :twocents:

I think the style the art is drawn in has alot to do with it, as does whether or not the themes in the art are occasions of sin for the individual viewer. You also have to ask whether it was the intent of the artist to take it in that direction or if it’s just the viewer having their own observation and impression made on them. I think a viewer will see what they want to see in a picture and will automatically focus on what is most appealing to them about it, and feel disturbed by what wasn’t. Naturally, that leads to a certain amount of bias.
