You might ask to talk to the DRE (director of religious education) or one of the Deacons if the parish has deacons.

Cool…Was he a good teacher?
This could turn out to be a good resource for you if you can reach him.
The Spirit moves in many strange and wonderful ways.

Peace
James
Wes was a classmate, but the prof who taught the class is the best in the department. A sweet little Indian man of few words, but high expectations and full of laughs and loves the Lord. I’m gonna try and see if I can’t get a hold of Wes on Facebook or check with the school. It would be great to get perspective from another person who has studied the Wesleyan understanding of Christian faith and was led to Catholicism.

That would be wonderful if you could get in touch with him.

Exactly what I was thinking…and a big reason why we had suggested the Coming Home Network…the idea of being able to talk to others with the same or similar backgrounds.

Let us know how it goes…We love these kinds of threads…👍

I do have a question for you my friends. Does the church have a problem with parishioners getting a seminary education from a non-Catholic seminary? Like I said I am working on an MMin from MVNU which is a ministry practics degree, but I am planning on getting my MDiv with a concentration in History or Theology and the degree I am currently working on now would allow me to cut down on the cost of an MDiv because it would eliminate classes and stuff depending on the Seminary I go to and their MDiv requirements. Thx

The Church does not police where you go to school…

You might want to talk to your old school chum, or the folks at CHN about the advantages/disadvantages of such degrees when looking at ministry within the Catholic Church…

I would definitely contact the Coming Home Network as their ministry began primarily as " a fellowship of clergy and lay converts to the Catholic faith, and those who are journeying home." They would be of great help to you in answering your questions. (They would also be able to provide you not only with practical advice but also somewhat of a support forum which may prove to be of further help to you during your journey.)

Blessings …Sr. Debbie O.S.C.

Just wanted to update everyone on where my discernment process has led me thus far. I have been attending Mass a once or twice a week the last few weeks. I’ve also met and spoken with the Deacon at the parish who has been of a great deal of help and understands the situation I am in and is certainly interested in helping me learn more about the Catholic faith and help me in this time in my life. He has encouraged me to attend RCIA and so far I have been to one of them on the Holy Spirit. Met with him today and discussed that since much of what he is covering I have been through in my classes that I would probably be picking and choosing the ones I attend (mainly those I have little understanding of) so certainly I appreciate the prayers of everyone as I certainly have felt them and continue to ask that you do so for me and my family.

Blessings,

Sean

I’ve got Reasons to Believe and Covenant and Community but haven’t had time to read them. A bit hard to do reading when you are in school, particularly in a Master’s program.

I also have picked up the audio book Return to Rome by Francis Beckwith

Also:
A Minute in the Church by Gus Lloyd

&

Catholicism* by Robert Barron

Also an avid listener of XM 129 the Catholic Channel.

There have been so many great answers to your questions already, so I can’t say much that hasn’t already been said. Therefore, I will just let you know that I will keep you in my prayers and I hope you do not hesitate to ask all the questions you want! There are so many wonderful resources available so that no question has to go unanswered! 🙂
