NBC Rejects Pro-Life Super Bowl Ad on Obama and Abortion

Washington, DC – NBC is coming under fire from pro-life advocates for rejecting a television commercial a pro-life group hoped to run during the Super Bowl. The ad shows a beautiful picture of an unborn child during an ultrasound and asks what would happen if President Barack Obama had been a victim of abortion.

The commercial, a popular one in recent weeks within the pro-life movement, is sponsored by the pro-life Catholic group Fidelis and its CatholicVote web site.

That’s too bad. It’s a great ad. Hopefully if enough of us let NBC know what we think, they may change their mind.

But if this doesn’t pan out, maybe Fidelis can use the money to show the ad during “Lost” or “American Idol” or some other such heavily-watched program.
 
I have filed a complaint with the FCC and sent an email to NBC. I’ve also forwarded both the above links to a great many pro-life groups around Texas.

I filed a complaint with the FCC. I have emailed NBC and have copied my senators. It is not a pro-life vs pro-death issue. NBC uses government owned airspace and must allow equal access to that airspace at equal rates.
 
I agree this is a great ad. But, playing devil’s advocate here - if this ad is run, what is going to stop the pro-choice folks from running a counter ad? And how are you going to stop it? Because we don’t like their ad NBC shouldn’t air it? Can’t have it both ways. I would rather not see the pro-life ad during the super bowl (or any other time for that matter) than to have to in turn see a pro-choice ad advocating abortion. And you can bet if the pro-life ad plays, the pro-choice ad isn’t far behind.

That would be great. It would show a great contrast.

What are they gonna do? Suggest that the “messiah” president should have been aborted, if his mom wanted to make that “choice” (remember, for them, it’s all about the woman, not the baby. The baby’s just a “clump of cellls”, or worse, a “parasite”). I agree w/ the pp. The contrast would be great, and I don’t see how it could be lost on anyone (denied, yes, but not lost or misunderstood. Seeds could be planted!).

The ad is awesome and really brings the point home. The actions taken by NBC really show how much they want to black the pro-life position out. It’s bad enough I saw absolutely no media coverage for the March for Life in D.C. and San Francisco. The only reason I knew about the events was by listening to Catholic Radio. It’s a shame that such a popular position such as pro-life is trying to be snuffed out.

O, and by the way, I’m posting that ad on my MySpace page! :signofcross:

No, it’s company policy not to show political ads during sporting events.

Maybe “counter ad” was the wrong choice of words. I was not suggesting that they would want to run an ad suggesting Obama should have been aborted. All I was saying was if NBC chooses to run a pro-life ad (whatever the ad may be), pro-choice ads will be there as well. And people who want to believe abortion is okay will not see the contrast in the pro-choice ad. Rather, they will say the pro-life ad is religious propaganda!
 
Since there is no fairness doctrien in place, and shouldn’t be, NBC is free to not air any ad it doesn’t want to air.

That sounds lke the fairness doctrine. Airspace is not government owned or else the conservative networks would be required to air the liberal side as well.
 
Goofyjim, I guess you wouldn’t have felt the same way if NBC or any of the other networks had refused to air Barack Obama’s 30 minute commercial back during the fall election.

Wrong. If they had refused to air that as well, it would be their prerogative. I am opposed to any fairness doctrine because if we expect the liberal stations to air our side we best be prepared to air theirs as well.

Everyone here is welcome to write a letter to NBC if they want, but NBC hasn’t done anything wrong. They are merely exercising their freedoms to choose what they show on their network. I am, however, disappointed in their decision.
