I agree with you …that’s why I’m not sure it is correct to say we ( Catholics and Protestants ) “venerate” the Bible…

You have respect for God’s word. You believe it is holy. You love the word of God. Even though you may not express it physically, that is still veneration.

It depends on the definition of the word “veneration”, in French we wouldn’t use it in this context, indifferent whether we are talking about Catholics or Protestants, but maybe the definition in English is slightly different …
In French we would rather say we “respect” it …

This morning, Monday 2/13 Today aired a piece saying that the shroud has been venerated by Christians world wide. Maybe they heard some complaints…who knows.

Let me ask this, the Shroud of Turin is considered by many to be authentic. I have no doubt it is. To me, it is indeed the burial cloth of our Lord, and Savior, Jesus
Christ. What is wrong with looking at it with a loving glance? It is not worship by any means. I only worship God, and God alone. I do not worship the Shroud of Turin.
I do however, look at the image of Jesus on it with a loving glance. That is far different that bowing down and worshipping it. It makes me appreciate His sacrifice more, and makes me appreciate what He went through for each and everyone of us. For many who consider it

Jesus Christ, it is proper to venerate it, is it not?

We have the veneration of the cross on Good Friday but I don’t worship the cross. I worship the man on the cross.

Why not ? If Catholics really VENERATE the Shroud, I mean, if they don’t WORSHIP it, it’s better if journalists use the proper word…That’s not a very nice thing to say!
But what I saw on TV with the Shroud looked more like worship to me …

Catholics do not worship the Shroud of Turin. There is nothing wrong with venerating the Shroud… If you don’t want to believe the Shroud is real, that’s your right to do so. But, for those of us who do believe it is real, it is also our right to do so. We worship the One True God, Jesus Christ. Let’s get that straight. Just because we venerate certain things, does not mean we worship them. That belongs to God, and God alone. If you have a hard time with what we believe, and want to know what we believe in depth, ask anyone here. Ask an Apologist here, there are many many threads here with what we believe. It is also in the library at this site.

Well, maybe YOU venerate it, some, it seems, worship it although they are not supposed to…or at least it really looked like worship …
I know there is sometimes a difference between what is the official teaching of the Catholic Church and what some people understand or make of it …
Same with Protestants, I’m sure I must sometimes be “heretical” even for my own denomination since I’ve been brought up in atheism , so I’ve never been to Sunday School …
I was already an adult when I became a Christian…I had to learn a lot of things before being baptized and the minister who prepared me for it was sometimes very puzzled and surprised by my questions …

I was channel surfing the other day and they had (I assume) this show on about the Shroud of Turin. (It wasn’t NBC.). BUT, at the very beginning the voiceover said that Catholics worship the relics, etc… and I immediately continued to surf. If they got something wrong that was THAT basic, I would have to assume they messed up a lot of other stuff with the shroud.
There is so much erroneous stuff out about the shroud, that you really have to make sure you have he absolute latest info.
I mean, like, one expert still insists it’s paint, although the notion of paint has been thoroughly refuted.

Catholics use the word as defined here - dictionary.reference.com/browse/worship. That is a very wide definition, particularly #1 “reverent honor and homage paid to God or a sacred personage, or to any object regarded as sacred.” You sound like you are unfamiliar with this wide usage.
