Near a Buddhist/Hindu temple

Hi!

I would like to know if anyone has a similar experience to mine.

When I go near or past a Buddhist/Hindu temple or a mosque, I almost always feel a sense of uneasiness so I have learned to sign myself whenever I approach these venues.

Just curious, but I am wondering whether I may have the spiritual gift of discerning spirits?

Unlikely. It’s more common that you have a natural bias towards these religions. To truly discern this you would need to have a spiritual director who is well versed in the discernment of spirits.

There is a hindu temple I pass by sometimes on the freeway. I usually just make the sign of the cross toward the temple and pray that God sheds His mercy upon them.

I would say that you need to talk to your priest about this. Could you state some evidence that points to you having this ability other than a weird feeling?

I would think it a sign that you are young and inexperienced and have not yet been closely exposed to actual people, cultures, religions and languages outside of your own small community.
That naturally gives rise to unease. “Culture shock” is very real for people who travel overseas to countries and cultures much older and very, very different from their own.

Yet we are one people so we cannot be all that different. Good and bad people, wise and ignorant people can be found in all religions, races and nations. Including white middle American Catholics!

If you are uneasy, by all means, continue to invoke Jesus’ presence, and pray for those who might be attracted to such belief systems. Your desire to do so is not an indication of any gift of discernment of spirits. Feel free to research those belief systems, and perhaps to later talk with the people.
