The most rational theory is lack of oxygen to the brain coupled with personal expectations.
You particular judgment happens when you are dead. You are found worthy of one of three things, Heaven, Hell or Purgatory. If you make regular use of the Confessional, Death won’t catch you off-guard. My personal spirituality has the door to the Confessional as the Gate of Heaven, for entering there one receives the healing help one needs straight from God Who can deliver you from all evils, including personal sins. But if you never go there, He cannot help you. Plus the Penances given do shorten you stay in Purgatory. How long does it take until the Particular Judgement? Orthodox hold 40 days. They also say that during this time the soul see the Heavens and Hell.
You mean that right away after the death comes the Particular Judgement? And right after the judgement the soul goes into the Heaven, Hell or Purgatory? Doesn’t the soul see them all before going into the placed decided for you?Hello Ion.

There is nothing scriptural concerning “seeing” these places prior to going wherever. You mean that right away after the death comes the Particular Judgement? Maybe you are not really dead until you are judged? There is nothing scriptural concerning “seeing” these places prior to going wherever.
Seeing requires eyes, anyway.

That could be, given that none of these accounts describe facing a judgement.Maybe you are not really dead until you are judged?
I expect they see the same way someone sees things in a dream. That could be, given that none of these accounts describe facing a judgement.
It remains a true human mystery how these people see, with their human eyes closed, or rolled back, or in the dark or all three.

No, dreams aren’t reality and once dead you face the Ultimate Reality - God Himself in His fullness, only if you are worthy of Hell you won’t see Him at all and if you are worthy of Purgatory He’ll only seem as a far off Something towards which you yearn but cannot reach. No, dreams aren’t real so you can stop imaging that is how folks see after death.I expect they see the same way someone sees things in a dream.
Do you think that people who experience NDE’s are dead? Truly dead.Hello Schaeffer.

Jesus is the only one who judges us.Do you think that people who experience NDE’s are dead? Truly dead.
They are named NEAR death experiences. And they can be induced “artificially” through certain types of brain stimulation, and occasionally people experience them spontaneously when then are not in any danger of death at all.
Many people experience a life review, sometimes including angels or spirits with them evaluating their life, though that is not the same as being judged by God.
I had an NDE about 25 yrs ago, after the birth of my second child. I was dangerously hemmorhaging and losing a tremendous amount of blood but I was not dead. My situation was not as extreme as those of some people who are very very close to death when their experience occurs.
I read a lot about NDE’s and the variety is astounding.
yes, that is why I asked whether or not people believe that folks who experience NDE’s are REALLY dead, if no judgement by Christ takes place.Jesus is the only one who judges us.
Me too.yes, that is why I asked whether or not people believe that folks who experience NDE’s are REALLY dead, if no judgement by Christ takes place.
Too bad we never got a report of Lazarus experience. I’ve always wondered.
That’s an excellent point. In fact, I would extend it to other aspects of reported NDEs which appear to be inconsistent with scripture, or at least aren’t addressed in scripture. There is nothing scriptural concerning “seeing” these places prior to going wherever.
