Near Occasion of Sin?

I was recently praying and remembering how the Lord’s mercy had freed my from my revolting sinful past. Sadly one of the problems I had encountered in my past life was of a sexual nature. As I remembered my past sins I became a little aroused. I didn’t do this deliberately and just ignored it but for a few seconds continued reflected on my disturbing sins from the past.

By not stopping thinking about this right away have I failed to avoid a near occasion of sin?
 
Be at Peace. These things can occur during time of prayer and reflection. Some might say that it is Satan tempting you away from God, and indeed it is. However it is also an opportunity for you to recognize how far you have come, to give Praise to God for His mercy and Grace to resist the temptation. It is also an opportunity to recognize that there is still “work to do” in overcoming the “affection for sin” that we all retain to some degree even after conversion.

Stay near to the foot of the cross. Recall Christ’s death for our sins as a shield against such thoughts. also recall Christ’s words, “Get behind me Satan”.

Do this and such unbidden recollection can not harm you.
