I thought I’d share something that was kind of nice that happened to me today, especially since everyone is always complaining of how unwelcoming Catholic churches are, these days.
For reasons of work, I had to leave my home parish last year and started going to a different one. The new parish has been very welcoming, which is natural because it is more suburban, but my old parish (downtown) kind of has the reputation of being “cold” because it is very orthodox and people tend to be “followers of rules.”
I went there for daily Mass today, after having been absent for more than a year. Not only was I warmly welcomed back, but as it happened, the person who was supposed to do the readings today was absent, so the coordinator of the liturgy came over to me, and said, “Hey, welcome back - want to do the readings today?”
It’s like I never left …
Anyhow, it’s not a big thing, but after reading so many posts today about how Catholic churches are not very welcoming, I just wanted to share that.
