He got her pregnant before they got married, so he is a pedophile, and should be charged. I don’t care how young people got married way back when. Nowadays, adolescence is stretching out our childhoods. That girl’s parents failed her by sending her off to marry her molester. I think the prosecutor is doing the right thing.
I AGREE, ANYONE ADULT OVER 18 WHO DOES THIS OR SOMETHING SIMILAR SHOULD BE PROSECUTED.

No, they aren’t.

No, it hasn’t.

Thank you!! God bless you, Mark!! You are absolutely right!!
“Consent” requires the mature ability to give informed consent. No 13 year old child is capable of giving this form of consent.
A child is a child. Just because she has had lousy parenting doesn’t mean she is any more grown up than another child. It just means that the parents who in effect sponsored this outrage need to be charged as accessories.

Exactly. And comparing the maturity of a 13-year-old to the maturity of an 18-year-old is hardly a flattering comparison. While anecdotal evidence is hardly conclusive, “mature” is a term that, IME, can seldom be accurately applied to an 18-year-old’s decision-making abilities.

Yup…totally agree. I have a very mature 13 yo girl. She is definitely not old enough to make a decision about sex and men, it is a realm she has no experience in. Her innocence would be so betrayed by a slick talkin guy that promises her the moon. If Mr. Slick had the opportunity to have that kind of conversation with her, I hope she would walk away, but thank God, he won’t because I don’t allow her to talk with men unless I can hear the WHOLE conversation…even then her older brothers would have something to say about it too…

Anyone know what age the Church lists as “old enough” to be married? If I remeber correctly its fairly young.

I would assume it would be after the age they are confirmed…
My daughter can’t witness my wedding (sign the papers that is) because she has not been confirmed yet. Although my pastor is looking into that for me since she is my maid of honor

When I got remarried my son was one of our witnesses he could not sign the papers though because he was not 18 …which is what state law required.

Witness signatures in Illinois are optional as far as the state is concerned…only thing that matters in my state is church rules

Lucky you…IMO the state should not even be involved.

It’s 14 for females and 16 for males. I’m told that the Church tends to observe the local civil age requirement, if higher.
