As with charges for any other thing in America, what happened to innocent until proven guilty? The problem with making a list of accused will forever tarnish the names of the innocent forever. That list isn’t going away, even if someone is found innocent.
Reputations can and are ruined by just the mention of charges, especially for priests and medical doctors. There will always be a bit of doubt even once cleared.
As for the amount he is seeking, it seems typical of lawsuits these days. It is unclear to me if he has left the priesthood if he is asking for wages he would have earned for the next 35 years?
