I met a guy last summer at a bar, but I lost him in the crowd and we never exchanged numbers. It didn’t bother me though because I don’t remember being too crazy about him. Anyway, on NYE i saw him again. I didn’t recogonize him right away, but when he said his ethnicity (he’s mixed - 50% of his mixture is the same as my ethnicity so I remembered). I remembered him and asked if he remembered who I was, and he said he did. He was hanging out the rest of the night with me, my friend and another guy I saw there from high school. as the night went on, I was really liking him this time around. He’s Catholic, goes to church, cute, VERY respectful, friendly and nice to everyone around us and overall just great personality. He was looking out for my friend (who was really drunk) more than I was. I got his number early on in the night , because at first I jut thought he would be a great friend to come along in a group when me and my friend go out. My friend thought he liked me, and I did too from the way he was talking to me and he was touchy (not in a disrespectful way though). And he asked what if I was working and what I was doing the next day (new year’s day). But he didn’t ask to go out.

That weekend on Saturday night I ended up texting him and asking what he was doing that night. He texted and told me he was going to meet up his brother and brother’s friend at some ‘dive’ bar and he invited me. I didn’t have plans and so I said that I would come by. When I got to the parking lot, I told him I was there and he came out to meet me and he had this huge smile on his face and hugged me. I met his brother and friend who wee really nice but the whole time he kept talking to me and we weren’t really interacting much with his brother and brother’s friend. He was looking into my eyes, smiling and asking mature questions. He mentioned he’s looking for someone who he can see himself in the future with, etc. he kept complimenting me and telling me I was pretty and he loved my smile. We ended up meeting my friend (the one he met on NYE with me) that was in the same town with other friends, and anyway the rest of the night went great. We texted when I got home and he told me he liked me and that he hadn’t felt that way in forever, and I told him felt the same way.

Not to go too much into detail again, but I texted him on a different Saturday during the day and we were chatting a bit and he asked what my plans were later … And then I asked if he wanted to do a double date and he said yea. My other friend and her boyfriend came too, so it was basically a triple date. This time around didn’t go so well, and it was my fault in a way. I didn’t show him affection at all really, and when pulled out his arm so we could lock arms I didn’t, I told him I don’t trust anyone except family , and basically kind of not really showing him I liked him. I don’t know why because I actually like him more than I’ve liked any guy before and it’s rare for me anyway to like a guy a lot. He kind of got mad at me towards end of the night… don’t want to go in detail because my post will be too long lol, but I did say ‘come on let’s go’ and He said why do I talk to him like a kid and that he doesn’t deserve that, and said 'I guess nice guys finish last. I think he probably just thought I wasn’t being affectionate toward him or whatever and he blew up. Basically the night did not go great for us.
I texted him at night and apologized and told him he was a perfect gentlemen, and he said I didn’t have to apologize. And we just both texted good night. On Monday morning I texted him that I was getting my car (told him about a new car I was getting), and he replied back and he seemed normal. But, then another day in the week I texted him just saying hi and how are you , and he didn’t reply back. I didn’t hear from him the rest of the week after that Monday about my car. I texted him Saturday and he didn’t respond again. Now he’s ignoring me and I haven’t heard from him.

What are some of your thoughts about what happened and why he would totally ignore me now and not talk to me when it seemed he really was into me. I’m really heart broken now, even thought I haven’t even known him that long it seemed like I knew him forever.

I’m not a male sorry, but was wondering what you meant when you told him you don’t trust anyone but family? Do you mean you don’t hold hands or link arms in a boyfriend/girlfriend relationship?

Oh no I didn’t mean that. I meant like trust as in I don’t know if people’s intentions are good or bad. The reason I think I said that too was because after NYE and that first Saturday night we hung out he only texted me once during the week (it was about 2 hour text conversation though). But he didn’t ever call, so I kind of thought there was something weird about that. But j guess I should have brought it up.

By the way anyone’s opinion is appreciated 🙂

So…

The time you met him and really liked him and he was respectfully touchy was okay with you.
You text and talk a few times after that and seemingly you both enjoy each other’s interaction.

Then you invite him out, he meets up with you, and again offers to be respectfully touchy by offering his arm to you and your response to him is that you don’t trust anyone except family.

🤷 Maybe you are sending mixed messages and he doesnt want to have to work so hard to figure you out.

Maybe you’re right, I didn’t think about that. But, it wasn’t that I wasn’t ok with him being touchy the second time, I think I just was being shy about locking arms I really don’t know what it was. But I guess I could see how i would be sending mixed messages.

Yes, for future reference, I wouldn’t say things like ‘I don’t trust anyone but my family’. It’s basically announcing ‘I’ve got issues’.

Yes. Gotta admit that was a strange response to an innocent gesture on his part.

That’s true. He’s a nice guy, and that’s why I felt bad and apologized to him. But, he might think I only apologized about something else.

You weren’t clear about what you were apologizing about?

No, because he got mad at the end of the night because I had said ‘come on let’s go’ so in the car we were talking about what happened in that specific moment so I said sorry. When I apologized in the text I wasn’t specific.

You need to learn how to say what you mean, and mean what you say.

Your broken hearted over a guy you met at a bar and knew for 72hrs?

It was 2 weeks , and I know that’s not long at all. And believe me I’m not the ‘guy crazy’ type of girl, and I usually think it’s weird when girls act crazy about a guy. I just honestly never liked someone like him before. I’m not saying I’m in love with him or was in love with him, which maybe I shouldn’t say heart broken then. But, I’m hurt. I meet a lot of people but it’s very rare for me to like a guy. I know it sounds weird but that’s how I feel.

You are sending him mixed messages. I like that. It is a much more polite way of phrasing what I was thinking. Back in the 1990’s, we used to refer to your thoughts and behavior as being a psycho.

I think I would write him off. If he wants to see you again, which is doubtful, he will contact you. He has moved on and you should as well. His lack of response is just being polite in not wanting to hurt you by telling you to get lost. Continuing to contact him will quickly become stalking.

I could be wrong, but I tried my best to give you the honest opinion of how a man would view the situation. I can’t speak for all men, but any chance for a relationship ended when you compared him to a scary creep on top of refusing a gentlemanly polite arm.

Thank you! I just wish he would explain it to me, even if he doesn’t want to talk anymore. But, I think you’re right… His ingnoring me is his way of telling me he’s not interested anymore. Thanks for your (name removed by moderator)ut!

Don’t know what you are basing that on…🤷
Elementary, my dear Irishmom. The young man in question is a highly social and romantic individual who desires to date with a marriage as an end goal. He is also a high-value target to the opposite sex. Nevertheless, he is of sufficiently stern moral fibre not to casually double-time a nice young ingenue like the OP. If he is not dating said OP, it is not because of anything the OP said or did, as she neither said nor did anything that would scare off someone who was seriously “in the market”, as it were. So, he must have found someone else. He did not write the OP to tell her because there’s no good way to tell someone that you’re not dating them because you found someone more to your liking.

Sorry, OP. Lots of fish in the sea though.
