Need a stay at home job

Hello everyone,
I was wondering it anyone has a good stay at home job. My sister is going to have to quit her job due to her son who has emotional issues needing her. She is divorce and a single parent with no child support from her ex. He is just not paying it… to long of a story to go into it here. Any of you stay at home moms have a job, other than parenting, that brings in income?

I have heard of auction online jobs or survey, but don’t know if they are good or true to an income. She needs an income, but will have to stop working outside of the home.

I have heard of auction online jobs or survey, but don’t know if they are good or true to an income. She needs an income, but will have to stop working outside of the home.

If she has a computer and the Internet, almost any job can be a stay-at-home job, nowadays. In fact, a lot of employers prefer it, since it means they don’t have to rent as much office space. She would have to go in for meetings for an hour or two at a time, but apart from that, she’d be free to stay home, work on her projects, and look after her son.

That’s a tough one.

I have an engineering degree, and online workplaces such as E-lance which do computer programming and website design – even then – do not pay much per job without a veifiable reputation. Early starters are in the same ballpark as foreign competition at much lower $ – so it can take a while to build up a reputation and really grunge jobs have to be taken at first. This means one has to have money in savings, and perhaps be prepared for welfare which is a slow death.

Unless she has the intelligence, money to survive for an extended period, and willingness/discipline to work that way – online jobs are not easy to come by.
I have had most of my luck working with people in Europe / UK who are far more willing to pay someone they can talk to in English – than they are in the total price of the job – as the English pound is worth far more than the american dollar.

My neighbor though, is a mother does online webpage design for a company in the US, and I am not sure how she found it – she homeschools her two daughters, works on the dabase web pages, and has help from her parents next door. She couln’t live otherwise – but it is one of those fertility clinics, although it pays well – the ethics of that isn’t really good. But if there is serious interest I could ask Anna how she found the work anyway, but your friends skills or willingness to train would be the prime issue.

Her husband left her both in part because she refused to treat her postpartum depression, and also because he lost his job over an addiction to video games his boss happened to like… He got another job out of state, and is supporting two houses at low pay, divorcing him would not bring her income worth anything in comparison to what he gives her now, so she works for a substandard living and the rest is made up by her parents who live next door.

There is a difference between working from home and a home-based business.

If you work from home for an employer or as a contractor on projects, they will expect that child care is in place. You cannot “work from home” in a full time job AND care for a special needs child at the same time. Employers are going to expect that the hours they pay you for are devoted 100% to working. These types of jobs will have flexibility in which hours you choose to work, perhaps evenings, weekends, etc, or may pay on a project basis-- but still expect that any children are in some type of child care during the hours you are working.

A home-based business is different. In that type of environment you are making something, selling something, or doing something that allows you the freedom to do so while caring for your child. For example, selling items online in an eBay environment, having a website and selling a product, etc., in-home day cares, etc. I have a couple of stay-at-home mom friends who make things and sell them online or care for other people’s children in their own home. BUT, this is NOT full time income that would support them and a family. They are only able to devote minimal hours to their business b/c they spend most of their time caring for their children.

She is a Massage Therapist and a Physical Therapist assistant, as well as a Personal Trainer and instructor in Kick Boxing and other classes offered at gyms. She does not feel that she can do Massage Therapy full time due to increasing back pain and hand pain. They use both all day long. Presently, she is working as an assistant to a Physical Therapy helping patients do their exercises and stretching and putting them on ultrasound and etc. She works for a major hospital group here in Orlando. Her job has been understanding for she has had to leave so many times due to her son’s problems. It can’t last long like this. She is praying for a job at home.

Would she be able to be with out her son for an hour here or there? If so, why doesn’t she start a Catholic based business of being a personal trainer and massage thereapist? As a personal trainer she can focus on helping her clients tap into prayer when exercising (and focus on making bodies into the healthy ways God intended - pulling in scripture and inspirational music). same with massage therapy, she can use chants instead of that Eastern meditative music. She can advertise in the local parish bulletins and build a Catholic clientel. Maybe she can even work with Catholic Charities to refer people to her.

if she is willing to get some training there are a lot of jobs in the medical field that can be done online at home. Medical billing, medical transcription, etc.

I am sure there are also some things in the insurance field that you can do from home, but I am not sure what.

I am not a stay at home mom but I do supplement my income through ebay… but I assemble, test and sell web servers. My girlfriend is also an eBay powerseller and she goes to the thrift stores around here, the flea markets etc. and resells the stuff online. What you need to tell your friend to do is research, research, research. Niche markets are where the $'s at for someone looking to do online auctions. The title on the auction is also the KEY to getting a sale.

Online auctions are just like any other business – it is a real job. When posting an auction you need to be as detailed as possible about each and every item, answer customer e-mails, setup the product description and layout with photos, upload the photos to a website (I recommend getting your own as in the long run it is cheaper with your own hosting).

Also how is your friend going to keep up their insurance for herself and her child if she is not working for an employer?
