Hello everyone.
I was recently very kindly given a first class relic of St Pio, a small piece of cloth, stained with blood from his stigmata. As it is a small piece, it isn’t yet contained in any reliquary or theca.
This is certainly not run of the mill, and I am uncomfortable to even think of it outside of a reliquary! My budget though, isn’t huge and I have what is maybe a little bit of a strange question to ask.
I haven’t been able to find any reliquaries for sale in my own country, so I am needing to import from the US. There isn’t a vast quantity of these, and so I am currently narrowed down to these two options. Now, one is smaller, as you can see, and made of polished brass. The other is larger and comes in either polished brass or gold plate. The difference in price for these isn’t important.
(1.) Brass
(Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.)
(2.) Gold plate
(Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.)
I have been told that the larger reliquary (2.) might look slightly gaudy, since it won’t be contained in a church. At least not in the foreseeable future.
(1.) On the other hand, might be more practical. Not quite as large and looks as though the front part is removable. If this is the case, which it looks to be, I could seal the relic in that compartment as a sort of theca, which would perhaps add to the portability of the relic if needed. The only downside is that it is Brass.
My question is, are there any particular norms (or even common sense norms) for first class relics like this, such as, to be contained in a superior metal, even if only gold plated? I would be afraid to buy the brass one only for the nagging thought that for a small amount more it could be gold, and I wouldn’t have to worry about being cheap with our dear saint!
Sorry for the large post, any (name removed by moderator)ut is much very much appreciated!
Thank you.
