My BIL has some mental health issues that he denies or does not see for himself. My dh and his two brothers were all raised in a very dysfunctional home with child abuse by both parents. I did not know this when I married my dh for he kept it from me, but I noticed as we argued that his rationalization was not normal. I wanted to get a divorce so many times during our first five years of our marriage. He has a severe anger problem. I got pregnant right away, one month into the marriage so I hanged in there. At one point, I told my dh to go get help, or I am leaving him. He went and got help and was put on medication and what a improvement. He still has a temper, but not like before. Anyway, his brother is the same way. He will put words into your mouth or say something you did not say.

Okay, now that being said, here is my problem. My BIL wanted to borrow about $300.00 to pay his cell phone bill. I was against it, but my dh said he would pay it back as soon as he got his job. He was between jobs. He is a trucker. I had no say in the matter, but I did send my BIL an email telling him that we expect him to pay us back from his first paycheck. I also mentioned that at this point in his life, he should have a savings account to fall on for situations like this. You see he spends his money on women and sex and doesn’t save any of it. That is why I was against lending him money. Honestly, that is all I wrote in the email. Oh, I mentioned that if he saved his money instead of spending it on so many women, he would have some to pay his cell phone bill for he is old enough and should have a nice savings by now. He is 45 years old. Well, he called my husband’s cell and left a message. I heard the message first and in that he called me an a**hole. I didn’t say anything that deserved that. Then he wrote me an email back and told me that I should not talk about his woman that way and cussed some more at me. Mind you, I did not say anything about any one particular woman. I didn’t even know he was engaged. So he took my sentence referring to “women” and spending too money on them to mean his fiancee. Then at the end of the email, he said that I called him a loser and that he will never amount to anything. Again, I never said that either. All this brought back memories of when I had to deal with my dh when we first got married. He would say that I called him all these names and call himself all these horrible names. I never did. Now I know that is how they think of themselves. I even allowed my dh to read the email and he agreed that I never said any of what my BIL said I said. Then he sends me another email of a picture of his fiancees’ MVA and written under it said, “So you won’t judge my girlfriend, she went to work after this accident for that is what kind of woman she is.” That one angered me. I told my dh that I can’t deal with both of them and that his brother has done this before to me. His own mother won’t talk to him because he needs to be on medications and refuses to see that. He is a recovering alcoholic, but he has other problems as well.

Now, on my dh’s facebook today and I know this is for my eyes, he wrote that life is too short for family to be fighting with one another for the person you are not talking to can be gone tomorrow. What he said is true, but should I allow him back into my life and my dd’s for I told him after this last email incident to stay out of my life. I have forgiven him for I know he doesn’t know that what he does is offensive and wrong at times or comes across rude. I have heard this man call his many girlfriends horrible names. The judge has taken away his daughter and my MIL is raising her as her own. He is just one of those people who has not grown up. Like the judge said, “If you have not grown up by now, you never will.”

What would you do? Allow him back into your life and deal with the aggravation when he gives it to you, or leave things as they are?

You have a choice… stop the DRAMA and keep away from that person that is causing you grief. It will be hard for you to let go of the drama caused by this person.

I was once in a situation like that and a friend just said, “STOP, LET IT GO”. I did that and it worked for me.

There are times in my life where I want to get envovled with people who I know will cause me grief but I just stop myself.

Remember… what that person has to say about you is “NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS”.
It is their problem and not yours.

Get out of FACEBOOK because it is too public and it is now causing familes to break apart because they read what a family member said about them on Facebook.
Family members will go gunning after a relative that says something on facebook that they don’t like. It totally breaks up familes and friends. It happened in my family.

Please choose to protect yourself from negative people and just stay away from them so you can have a peaceful, joyful life filled with happiness. You don’t need toxic people around you.
It’s okay to forgive the person… but you can’t change them.
Everytime you think about negative things about a person… just say a prayer for that person and your feelings will become neutralized towards that person.

I agree with LaLucia’s good advice and also bout facebook. Not a very good place to blog with all this drama goin on. Keep praying for the Lord to move and sometimes we just have to stay out of it andl let Him work it out. :signofcross: :blessyou:

👍 I am painfully learning this in my own life. I actually deleted a LOT of family and friends from my friends list on FB because of the grief and stress that came with our relationship on FB. Unfortunately it created drama but I have to remember, the do not know my soul nor my struggles with bitterness and gossip because of their FB comments and messages. They still gossip behind my back and judge greatly my past, present and future, but now I don’t have to face it each day. I am really realizing they live differently than I and their perception toward life is straying from God and Catholic centered to talk-show host-like, a.k.a. drama centered. My husband and I go back and forth on whether or not to address these issues face to face for peace in the family, but I hesitate due to the others lying to cover their tracks (even with proof of their own statements presented to them). LaLucia is right, forgive but there is no need to subject yourself to their antics, craziness, and drama.

I used to give friends and relatives many chances when they would hurt my feelings.

I even tried to clear things up to make my relationships better with one special relative who is my daughter-in-law. It didn’t work… so I choose to leave her with her own anger towards me. But I stay in touch with my adult son who is her husband.

Another person who has always been mean to me is my own mother. She is now 88yrs.old and truly enjoys talking bad about me and others. I was hoping she would change but she plans to stay a mean spirited person. I only visit her on Holidays and on days that I want to visit her. I try to be kind to her because she is an old lady and my mom.
My Mom can’t hurt me anymore because I hold all the cards which means I have the power to visit her or not. I stay away from her DRAMA.

I have chosen to accept my relatives with all of their flaws. I told my Mom, “I don’t care how bad that nephew talks bad about me because I love him eventhough he doesn’t like me.” That stops the drama real quick. I really mean it too because my nephew is mentally ill. I have lots of mentally ill relatives.

SO-CALLED FRIENDS - I drop them like a hot potato when they do me wrong.

Great, I just didn’t want to be doing the unchristian thing, as he is accusing me of doing. He has called me a hypocrite and so forth. I basically told him that I love him for he is my husband’s brother, but that I am tried of the way he treats me and takes what I say out to mean something else. I know he is mentally ill and that is why I do forgive him and he can be so mean spirited. I just choose not to be around that and I do not want our daughter around him. My dh, thank God, has respected my choice and is not forcing the issue or saying the he wants our daughter to know her uncle. He is not a good role model anyway and I think that is why he doesn’t care if our dd knows her uncle or not. He is into porn and unfortunately our dd has see already his numerous women that have gone through his life. She knows he lives with them too. Now that she is older, she is 10, she will ask me if he is living with them and ask, “Isn’t that a mortal sin?” So she is aware of his behavior and immoral way of living. He also has a sailors mouth and even though he tries not to cuss around us, it comes out when that is what you are use to. My dd doesn’t need that and I don’t need to hear that either. So I am glad to hear I am not alone in how I feel. I have nothing to feel guilty of. Thanks guys. 👍

I am happy that we were able to help you out with advice.

Will you all please help me out by saying a few prayers for me? I am really sick with a throat infection and I am making a doctor appointment today when their office opens

My throat feels raw and painful and wakes me up from sleeping through the night.
I know the doctor will find the solution to my painful throat and do something about it.
I believe in the power of prayers. Thank you all. LaLucia

I just read this today and I hope you are feeling better. I will keep you in my prayers! You are probably feeling better by now. Maybe, the doc gave you some antibiotics. Feel better soon. You can count on my prayers.😉

Hello Nana, Thank you so much for your prayers because it really helped me to get better.
I started to feel better this evening.
My new doctor has put me on a gluten-free diet and dairy free diet. She prescriped some meds for me.

I was having a serious allergy problem where I would wake up in the middle of the night with the allergy problem. I wasn’t able to sleep through the night.
My new doctor has given me some allergy pills that I am going to take tonight so I can sleep better.

I did feel your prayers because it a feeling of well being all of a sudden. I had not taken any medication yet. I came home and feel asleep and woke up feeling great today.
I was making up for lost time.

Nana, thank you so much. Peace, LaLucia

I am glad your feeling better. How interesting that today at our co-op gathering of my homeschooling group, we were talking about allergies and most of the mom’s are on gluten free diets due to their kids having allergies. One suggested putting my daughter on it too. I should look into it. I find that interesting. I suffer with chronic sore throat and so does my daughter. We just thought is was our dog. Maybe it is the gluten we are eating. 🤷

Nana, There are many tasty gluten-free products at the grocery stores. Yesterday I made me some gluten-free pancakes and they were really tasty. I put peanut butter and jelly on them and it made a great desert for me.

I ate a mango and it seemed to cause me to feel alergic to it. I I decided to cut out citrus fruits for awhile. I plan to play detective.

I also have a cronic sore throat caused by post-nasel drip. Doc prescribed nose spray.
I will be seeing a throat specialist next month. I already have an appointment.

I guess we all have to play detective to see which foods are causing our problems.
PEACE, LaLucia

If he’s lost his daughter and it didn’t make him wake up and smell the roses, I doubt anything will, drop him like a lead weight is my advice, if your husband still wants to see him then by all means he could and should, but make sure he doesn’t spend time around your daughter, kids are very impressionable and she could pick up some very unpleasant language if he’s not careful

I get you’re more understanding and forgiving because he had a bad childhood and there’s certainly nothing wrong with that, but remember: Your husband got help when he needed to, his brother hasn’t, the ‘bad childhood card’ is played far too often, don’t let him use it as an excuse

You can offer someone all the help there is in the world, but if they won’t even consider it, there’s nothing you can do

Thanks, that is how I feel, I just felt so guilt for I thought it was not Christian like behavior, but I have given him so many chances and each time he brings me down or cusses or disrespects me. I am just sick of it. His own mother could not take him anymore and that says a lot. My whole husband’s family has issues with anger. I now have his aunt mad at me because of something I said, I guess that made her so angry that she hung up on my husband. My dh was talking to her about his mother who complained to us that she had no gas money to get to work. This same woman had a tax refund of $8,000.00 and said she was going to pay back two friends who she borrowed money from. She borrowed large sums too. One she owed $3000.00 and the other $2000.00 and not to mention the money she owed her sister. She used all that money up in renovating her house because she said it helped her keep busy and her mind off her ex-husband who she still loves. She is recently divorced and not accepting it very well. So now she ran out of the money and is in bad shape. I told my husband that I didn’t mind paying her lawyer the money needed to proceed to get her ex-husband for more money, but I didn’t think she would win for he is paying the child support. My dh told this to his aunt, but what she heard me say is that I have a sister like my dh’s mother and I tell her like it is and she told him, “She wouldn’t talk to her MIL like that would she?” My dh said no. She got off the phone shortly after that saying she is angry at the whole situation and won’t talk about it. I think she was angry at me. She is now not accepting my dh’s calls. She has always been that way. My dh’s family has issue’s with anger. I hate it. They go way overboard instead of just talking things out. It is just ridiculous. Oh well, she has never liked me anyway because I am hispanic. They love my dh though.

Thanks for your advice!

my suggestion is that hereafter you let your husband handle his affairs with his brother, and you butt out of it. That being said, your husband should not allow his brothers to abuse you, nor should he allow you to abuse his brothers. And in general, if you are trying to make a point with one person about that person’s actions, it does not help to drag in the actions of third parties that are not even relevant to the matter at hand.

Sound like you and your husband both need a crash course in communication and civility.

Hello Nana, I am feeling better from my allergies.

You made me laugh because you said your husband’s family doesn’t like you because you are Hispanic. They may not like it that you are Hispanic… I think what they really don’t like is that you and your husband have MONEY SAVED. That is where the jealousy comes in. They want their hands on your husband’s hard earned money and savings.

Don’t be so generous with those ungrateful people. They do have money themselves…it is just they don’t know how to save their money.

The relative who says that she doesn’t have money to buy gas for work is full of baloney.
People who say they don’t have money… do have money. That relative could sell some of her things to get some money to buy gas. If you had superman vision you would find her shopping for things instead of putting gas in her car.lol.

I never feel sorry for relatives who say they don’t have money to meet their daily needs.
They throw their money away, they don’t save their money, and they want to live beyond their means.

This is my advice for you… DON’T LEND THEM MONEY OR GIVE THEM MONEY.
They will never be greatful for what you give them. They will just talk bad about you.

Those people who need loans of money usually find some chump to lend them money.

I have a sister who says she doesn’t have money to buy food. Our Mom gave her money for her to buy food. When Mom went to visit her on the day she gave my sister money…
Mom noticed she had lots of food in her pantry and her refrigerator.
My sister lies all the time that she doesn’t have any money. She goes shopping everyday for some useless things that she doesn’t need.

NANA… you will never be able to make your husband’s family members happy by giving them or lending them money. Money doesn’t bring people joy in life. Only love brings joy in their lives. Just pray for them that they find God’s love in their hearts. They have to find it themselves through God. Plus, your prayers will help them too.

NANA - I know it is hard to stay out of the FAMILY DRAMA… but you must if you want to have a happy and joyful life yourself. Find some activities to keep you busy.

I am Hispanic too and I have felt some prejudice from people in general too. But I don’t worry about it because those people don’t support me financially. My dad always used to tell me to not worry about what people think about me because they don’t make my mortgage payments. I have always followed his advice.

There are many people in this world who do like Hispanic people and there are many that don’t like us. So what? God loves us all nomatter what our culteral background is.
We have Our Blessed Mother and Jesus and angels to take care of us. And… we can surround our selves with wonderful people of all colors and culteral backgrounds.

I woke up early this morning. I am retired and this coming Thursday I will be seeing a doctor who will be setting up an appointment for me to get surgery on my left hand due to some medical problems in my fingers. He may decide not to do surgery but send me for physical therapy in my left hand.
I will let you know as soon as I find out. Please pray for me because I know you are in God’s grace. LaLucia

I think you misunderstood, puzzleannie. We did not involve a third party. The situation with his aunt is a whole new situation that just happened and is a separate issue from his brother. I related it to this one with his brother because they all react the same, with anger, to any situation. I stated that I was just tired of it all. I am tired of the anger. Even my dh has anger problem and I guess it is getting to me too. Yes, he is better from when we first got married for he is on medication and getting help, but still has problems with it and it is getting to me. I think I am falling into depressionn again. I am sorry you think I am abusing someone else, for that is not so, I only defend myself. I am tired of being a doormat. I am surprised I lasted this long without coming out against them saying things to his family for I am usually quiet and shy. It is now that his family is beginning to see me talk back, respectly but making my point, that I won’t take it anymore. As far as the aunt goes, she just misunderstood for she thought my dh and I were fighting while she was on the phone and got angry. Her dh wrote us an email yesterday and told us. That was not the case, but my dh is not going to explain and said he was going to leave it alone even though it makes me look like the one who did not want to lend my MIL the money. I don’t care anymore what they think. I am tired of my FIL, for I have another thread on that issue, coming to me about Mexican’s and illegals and not speaking English the first day they are here in America “emails,” my BIL’s cussing at me for saying things I did not say about his girlfriends or himself, and now my dh’s aunt’s thinking that I am fighting with my dh over my MIL and not giving her money and getting so angry at me that she had to hang up on my husband. I have had it. They can all think what they want. My dh’s aunt also is one to speak against hispanic and the Spanish language and I am tired of hearing about that too. They know I am hispanic (not Mexican American by the way, but Puerto Rican), so if it is not about race, why do they mention it so much. The only one who is not like this is my MIL.

Sorry, I ranted. I am sorry, and now I am crying. Maybe, I am depressed. I try talking to my dh, but he doesn’t understand. Oh well, thanks for your advice, puzzleannie. I remember you from some of my past threads and you always give great advice. God Bless you.

Thanks so much LaLucia for your words of wisdom. I will keep you in my prayers about your hands.

Nana, I will be seeing my doctor tomorrow. I can hardly wait to see him. Thank you for your prayers.

My advice to you is to stay away from your low-class angry relatives. Nomatter what explanations you give them they will find other things to slam dunk you with.

I am sorry your husband also has anger problems. You have enough problems trying to keep the peace with him and keep him stable.

I can tell you are a very intelligent woman and just need advice from others who have dysfunctional relatives. I have mean spirited dysfuntional relatives. I have learned to deal with them by staying out of their lives. I have learned just to stay away from their parties.
They always hurt my feelings when I hang out with them. I can tell who likes me and who doesn’t like me. Plus, we also have the two faced people who talk nice to me and then stab me in the back. “OUCH”. But, they all can’t hurt me because God is always with me and with you.
Relatives can really hurt your feelings and you will cry because you are only trying to be nice to them and they just want to hurt you because they may be jealous of you and not because you are Hispanic. They must see you as a punching bag because they think you can take it. You are not like them. You are a very nice person who shouldn’t spend time with them. You inherited them but you don’t have to talk and socialize with them.

You should say you are screening your phone calls on your answering machine. That way you don’t have to talk with them. Let your husband be the one to talk to them.

I see you as a very loving person and you don’t need to get envovled in their DRAMA.
You can’t win against mean spirited angry people. You can only pray for them.

I am Mexican-American and the topic of Immigration and the new Arizona law will effect everybody. It is a favorite topic to talk about. My advice to you is to just stay out of the topic and stay silent. Just listen to what people have to say. THAT IS WHAT I DO. The reason I do that is because our political leaders will handle that problem anyway. All we can do is pray that the problem gets solved.

I am safe and happy in beautiful California and you are safe in beautiful Florida. Both states have lots of Latinos from all parts of the world. We also have people from other parts of the world too. I love having lots of other culteral groups around me. I love people.

Nana, everytime you feel depressed just go for a walk and you will feel better. Drink some sleepy time tea and it will relax you. If you get seriously depressed go see a doctor.

Nana, next time the phone rings… look to see who is calling and don’t answer it if it is not for you. That will help you a lot. PEACE, LA Lucia
