I need your help finding the right book for a loved one. My aunt is in her eighties and in somewhat poor health. I very much want her to go to confession and get straight with the Lord, but it’s not going to be an easy task. I need a book that will help to inspire her to do this. A book that speaks of God’s mercy regardless of your past. One that’s loving and not judgmental but that lays out the necessity of confession and the beauty of eternal life with God. I’m giving a bit of background for you to help find a book that fits her circumstances.
She was raised Catholic but over the years became a less than faithful Catholic. She’s raised many kids, even sending them to Catholic schools, but none practice their faith. Some are quite hostile to it. She likes to read, but it’s mostly what I would consider trashy novels. She’s intelligent but a book that relies too heavily on hard to understand information won’t work with her. She’s a very loving person and a very good person but I’m certain there are things in her past that she would be very very very hesitant to share with a priest. It’s going to be very tough to get her to go to confession. She very irregularly attends mass and to be honest I’m not even sure the degree to which she believes in God anymore. On the bright side, she recently re-joined her parish but her reason was so that she could be buried through the church. It bothers me so much that she’s concerned about her funeral but seemingly much less concerned about her soul and eternity.
I want to find a book that will help to inspire her. To show/remind her of the love of God, the importance of coming home to Him especially through the sacrament of confession, and His infinite mercy. Any ideas are greatly appreciated. Thank you.
