I accidentally left my Fr. Lasance missal in the church basement while out of town and so far it has not turned up :sad_bye: .They church secretary has been quite nice and a note was put in last week’s bulletin, but I may have to replace my missal :sad_yes:.

I would get a Lasance again at the drop of a hat even though it is not the 1962 version if it was available, simply due to the notes and information as well as the fact that the Latin and English are of equal size and my eyesight, not so good even with my progressives.

I have read the threads from a few years ago about this topic and have looked at a certain brick by brick site about the same. I have seen both missals (though not recently) and am not certain I will be able to find them in order to look at them side by side.

So, can you give me (name removed by moderator)ut especially if you have both in the recent versions and/or saw both and decided for one over the other. I am not a newbie in the TLM (I am blessed to be able to attend every Sunday and days of obligation with the occasional daily mass). No doctrinal polemics or (name removed by moderator)ut please just your opinion of the merits of each. :harp:

From what I can gather, the Angelus in leather, does have the benefit of having almost all of the sacraments and the Latin type, though still smaller than the English) is either a larger type or is easier to read and not as squashed. The comments on the Baronius seem to indicate it is smaller and a bit easier to handle with one hand (key when attending mass with a wee one).

I appreciate any comments.

I don’t own the books in question, but in my experience Baronius are superior to all other versions of whatever book they make, which is why they tend to cost the most lol

Wow I just checked and my missal is actually a Baronius but it is the one from 2004 so its a little different from the current one.

Its very nice, I have had it for several years now and it is very well made, looks brand new still, not sure what the differences are between the one I have and the new version so can’t really advise you about the one they currently publish, judging by the website though it looks like it might be a little bit better.

O_M,
With my Baronius, the parallel Latin text is sized smaller than the English. For my aging eyes, and without sufficient light, it can be difficult to read (unless I take my glasses right off–then it’s fine). Also, the Baronius version has a bonded leather cover; the Angelus version imitation leather.

Meanwhile, I pray for the day when Baronius will publish an “extra large print” 1962 Roman Missal!

: )

What you can do is go to the Amazon site and “Look Inside” both the Baronius and Angelus versions online, which should give you an accurate perspective on relative (Latin text) font sizes between the two.

UPDATE: Whoops! No can do. The “Look Inside” option is available for neither.

Cordially,
PAB

The Angelus Press hand missal is also published in a leather binding, but it is not always available.

My two cents: The contents of the two missals is almost identical. The Baronius Press missal is fatter and, in my opinion, harder to hold in the hand, and the typeface used in the Baronius Press missal is, in my opinion, uglier than the typeface used in the Angelus Press missal.

Both are good missals and quality products, but for the above reasons, I chose the Angelus Press missal.
