Hey everyone,

I’m struggling with the virtue of hope. I don’t know it is a lack of trust in God or faith. Is there a saint that I could research and pray with in my search?

St. Jude is the patron Saint of hopeless causes. He is also the patron of Hope because those with tough causes trust in God to help them through his intercession.

Praying to the Holy Spirit to give you guidance, direction, strength & fortitude in your time of need.

St. Jude comes to mind first and his story would be a place to start. But, there are many saints who can provide hope in certain situations. For example, I love the story of St. Monica. If it isn’t a tribute to hope in God’s ability to answer our prayers I don’t know what else to call it.

They are not patron saints of hope, as such, but they will surely help you to grow in faith:
  • Sr. Benigna Consolata Ferrero (Servant of God)
  • St. Therese of Lisieux
  • Sr. Consolata Betrone (Servant of God)
  • Sr. Josefa Menendez (Servant of God)
  • St. Faustina
  • Bl. Dina Belanger
  • St. Gertrude
  • St. Mechtilde
  • St. Francis de Sales
  • St. Padre Pio
“He (the devil) is overcome by unlimited confidence in Jesus; the more frequent the falls, the more should confidence grow in the divine Mercy.” - Jesus to Sr. Benigna Consolata Ferrero

Tommy, life can be worrying and confusing, and it is natural to sometimes doubt. Even Jesus cried out in His distress, “My God, why have You abandoned me?”
Talk to Jesus about your own difficulties with hope. He understands.
Sometimes in life everything seems to go wrong, and then get worse. We just have to hang on at such times, trusting that in the end God will bring all things to good.

Our dear Lord please give Tommy faith and faithfulness, and bless him with hope in You.

In Webster’s dictionary a saint is 1. a holy person, 2. a person who is exceptionally charitable, patient, etc., 3. to certain christian churches, a person offically recognized and venerated for having attained heaven after an exceptionally holy life.

This is exactually what Jesus is. He is a man, and as saint Paul said, like us. He is at the right hand of the Father pleading for us as the eternal priest offering the eternal victim, himself. He is showing to his Father his five wounds to plead in our behalf. This is the man-God who prays to his Father for us, the bridgebuilder.

It is sometimes overlooked that his office is to be benefactor on our behalf because he is man tho joined to the Godhead.

So ask the man Jesus to pray for you on your behalf to God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. You have no one in heaven better to do this. And he took upon himself your sins out of his love for you. And certainly no one more powerful.

May God bless and keep you. May God’s face shine on you. May God be kind to you and give you peace.
