Does steak sauce go bad? I just found an unopened bottle that expired in June 2008. Is that safe? It’s been living in our fridge, apparently… :o

If it’s been stored in the refrig all that time unopened, it might still be okay. But, it certainly wouldn’t be at its best, especially since the pull date was a year ago. Open it up. See what it smells like, looks like. If it looks or smells any different than normal, don’t use it. My mother always said, “When in doubt, throw it out.” Better be safe than sorry. I’d probably toss it and make a quick trip to the grocery store.

From your signature I take it you are expecting a baby? I would be especially cautious in that situation to avoid anything that might lead to food poisoning. I would throw it out.

I agree with this. I just peeked and my steak sause has distilled vinegar in it and if memory serves, that ferments…er, a product of fermentation…something like that…lol…be safe…just toss it. 😉

Well, I threw it out. I was just wondering if anyone knew if steak sauce was something with an extra-long shelf life. I know that canned foods have expiration dates, for example, yet they are good for many years after those dates (so long as you’ve kept them well and they don’t have any dents or things, of course).

Sometimes the expiration date is more of a “best by” date (it won’t hurt you, but it may not be the best quality) and not a “this is going to be rotten and cause you harm if you eat it after” date. 😉
