Need for blessing a prayerbook

Is it necessary to have a prayerbook or missal blessed for the user to gain benefits? Would the user receive more graces, etc. when using a blessed prayerbook.

This is important because I am getting a box ready to send to an Army unit in Iraq.
 
Well, I like the idea of having prayer book missals in particular blessed. However, I think it is optional to have a prayer book blessed. Usually I get older prayer books blessed by a priest or I throw some holy water on them.
