Contact the Archdiocese of Chicago about their Theology on Tap program at Holy Name cathedral.

There are DVD series on various aspects of the faith.

Catholics who are interested in learning more can attend their parish’s RCIA meetings (unless this is not permitted).
Theology on Tap originated in the Archdiocese of Chicago, but grew to be too big for them to handle and they passed it off to Renew International. So Renew would be the place to contact about it, not the Archdiocese of Chicago.

I think it’s a great model for Young Adult ministry, but I’m not hugely confident in Renew’s resources. You could do the same thing yourself and call it something else and then you wouldn’t have to pay Renew a licensing fee. 😛 And you would have the freedom to choose your own resources rather than relying on theirs.

I’m wondering why this would be a post in the section of evangelization.

Catechesis, teaching the Catholic faith would come after a person enters into relationship with Jesus Christ, which is what evangelization is really about. Evangelization starts with the core gospel message, they kerygma.

Trying to give people “catechesis,” teach them the faith, who don’t have a personal relationship with Jesus is like trying to plant seeds in concrete expecting them to grow. It doesn’t work.

Check out this video by Fr. John Riccardo as he speaks about evangelization and what he is doing in his parish:

If you read through the catechetical documents of the Church, they always place catechesis under the umbrella of evangelization.

For example, at the very beginning of the General Directory for Catechesis it says (in article 4):

This document enunciates, amongst other things, a particularly important principle, namely, that of catechesis as a work of evangelization in the context of the mission of the Church. Henceforth catechesis would be considered as one of the enduring concerns of the Church’s missionary mandate for our times.

There are many other similar quotes, but you get the idea. It is very appropriate to talk about catechesis in this forum. It follows the model given to us by the Church.

Evangelization and catechesis don’t always (or ever) follow a neat, straight line of chonology. We are all in constant need of evangelization and in constant need of catechesis.

I also find that on-going catechesis, alongside the Sacraments, is the fuel that feeds my personal relationship with Christ. That relationship doesn’t exist in a vacuum.

Very true.

I also know notice that I have a typo with the word “chronology”. :o

I am starting an adult catechesis program in my parish, but I’m not sure which programs are available, apart from the Catechism of the Catholic Church itself. Could anyone recommend some theologically-orthodox programs that I could investigate? Thanks!
This program is put together by an orthodox and faithful Catholic college, and has persons doing the teaching with solidly Catholic reputations. I would strongly recommend taking a look. It is similar in some ways to the Catholicism series by Fr. Barron in that it contains high quality video from the Holy Land, etc., but it is also different in that it includes classroom style teaching, and has the express purpose of catechizing in a systematic way.

I listened to the introduction and read the titles of the teachings. It sounds like an excellent resource!
