Al Masetti:
RCIA is a relatively recent program.

The Church used to have many more conversions than they do now… so what kind of pre-RCIA program was in effect back before the 1960’s?
Al,

Having talked with converts from that time it was usually instructions with the Priest. BTW, RCIA as we know it is relatively new but it was something that was done in the Ancient Church 🙂

Like a non-american and a catholic culture country RCIA is wonderful, is wonderful seeing such people wanting to be catholic when they are adult.
Welcome to the church!

We actually had an inquirer thinking of joining the next class sit in on our class tonight. I can’t imagine being at that point again. :whacky:
I’m with you on that one! The process, although extremely necessary for most converts, seems excruciatingly long and I can’t wait to have it behind me. I will continue to study the faith, I’m not sure how many actually do that so making them take the class is very important. I wish every Catholic that I have ever known in my life would have to take the class. We Protestants (ex for me 🙂 ) might have a different feeling about Catholicism all around!

I wanted to thank everyone for posting to this thread and bring all up to date on what did happen with my friend.

Yes, it was a misunderstaning between the Parish Office person and my friend. It was actually an easy misunderstanding as many families registered right after Ash Wednesday so the Parish Office person was probably just overwhelmed with making sure she got all the information needed for all the registrants 😃

My friend did go back to the office and talked to our head of Adult Religious Education (yes, we have three DRE’s for the different “age” levels) and also talked to the Deacon who is going to be teaching the first class she will be taking. As it turns out this Deacon is also a relative of hers (a Cousin of her moms?), anyway all is going well and she is so excited and her husband is supporting her in this!

Pray for Renee and her family as they go through the proper steps for her to become a Catholic and that this might bring her husband fully back and her mom too!
