Hello,

I made some single decade rosaries for Christmas for my level 6 CCD class that I am helping to teach. I was going to include a CD with the rosary prayed on it, but I figured that none of the kids will listen to it.

I would like to include a CD that I can burn some Catholic music or podcasts onto that are appropriate for a grade 6 student. Anyone have a link for some audio that would be suitable? Or other gift idea?

Thanks,

D

What’s “level 6”? In the U.S. “sixth grade” is 12-year-olds.

I have 5th graders - these are 11 and 12 year olds.

We do not do a Christmas party or gifts in CCD - we do a party for Epiphany.

One year I made crocheted rosary pouches and put in one of these glow in the dark 20 Mysteries Rosaries totallycatholic.com/budget-rosaries.htm

I’ve given finger rosaries, I’ve given books, I’ve given bookmarks - it depends on the size of my class and what I can afford that year.

I’m giving a “Twelfth Day of Christmas” Party: buffet luncheon for kids and their parents/siblings. Not the same as an actual gift, though.

we have an Advent mini-retreat the last day of CCD before Christmas, with activities based on the Jesse Tree, the Advent Wreath, Advent readings, O Antiphons, Joyful Mysteries or some other appropriate theme. This year it will be Angels We have Heard on High, because the liturgy team wants the kids to make angels to decorate the church for Christmas, which we will do, but also highlight the part angels play in the Christmas story, the annunciation, angelic messages to Joseph and Mary, and of course to the shepherds, and by extension their role, mission and purpose in God’s plan and in human lives.

Liturgy of the Word for the annunciation story, light the advent wreath with prayers, brief teaching on angels by catechists in their age groups, progressive game based on the angelic messages figuring in the incarnation/nativity event, tied in with the meaning of Advent, appropriate songs, make the angels, snack, prayer and dismissal

this also gives the catechists and parents a chance who want to do a Christmas party (which we don’t do in Advent) to bring treats and so forth, have small gifts or whatever.

forgot to mention before the Sower magazine, published in England for catechists, also available by subscription in US and Canada, search Maryvale Institute (the publisher) or contact office of catechetics at Franciscan University of Steubenvill Ohio. I will post subscription info when I get in to work. best magazine by far for catechists (in fact do not waste money on RT Journal or The Catechist).

retreat for youth will be explaining, preparing for and conducting Posada for the parish.
