well, IMHO, it is not the diocese that is anti-latin, just the Bishop…
note the recent comments at the USCCB meeting on the translation of the missal in Orlando, ncrcafe.org/node/1911

i was raised in a German Catholic parish in IL, and i saw the “liberalization” of the mass in the 60’s and 70’s…then i fell away from the church 😦
i’ll PM you my thoughts on the parish i attend…although we don’t have TLM, i believe we have made great strides in returning reverence to the mass.

I feel your pain. I am a student at the University of Florida in Gainesville. Gainesville is home to some of the funniest Catholic parishes… There’s a story that some people all the way in Canada had told a friend of mine how sorry they were to find out they were from Gainesville, Florida. Anyways, we had a really good assistant priest at St. Augustine’s, Father Jan Ligeza. He is now at St. Paul’s in Jacksonville, along the river. You might want to check him out if you haven’t already!
I know Father Jan Personally as I am a St. Pauls parishoner. He is such a wonderful priest and friend. I am a former parishoner of Assumption Parish and couldn’t be any happier than I am at St. Pauls. I feel more alive in my faith this year than I have in a long time. I have also taken up the task of reading the Bible thanks to Father Jan. Words can not express my gratitude for having him as a spiritual leader in my life.

I’m kinda new here, but not to the Faith. In my 52 years of walking the planet, I’ve only been a member of 2 parishes, the second for over 40 years, thankfully my diocese is very conservative.

My question is this. Why the heck doesn’t somebody up the Chain of Command tell these rogue parishes and priest to simply STOP IT. :tsktsk:
Because there are more liberals up in the Chain of Command in the US, or World for that matter, than conservatives. Benedict XVI is trying to change that, but unfortunately there is still to many rebellions against the TLM and tradition as a whole.

If the SSPX is an option than so is the Eastern Orthodox churches. There are some fine ones in Florida. Way more reverent and conservative than the NO Catholic parishes in Florida. Sad about Florida!. I went college in Florida and consider it a second home. If I went back, I would definately find a TLM, Byzantine Catholic, or Orthodox Church.🙂

Doesn’t any of the Catholic Churches in Florida have the tabernacle behind the Altar?.

Yes. St Martin DePorres in Jensen Beach, FL. They also have the TLM on Sundays @ 12:30 and have had it for at least 10 years. Also, St. Lucie Catholic Church in Port St. Lucie, FL. btw-they have the “Risen Christ”…but they are now going to replace the Risen Christ with the Crucifix…

Father Jan sounds great. I visited St. Pauls once years ago, before Father Jan . It was before Mass, everything was quiet, just about 8 people including a couple of Sisters kneeling in prayer. There were a few Chior members over to the side when all of the sudden I heard a man start telling a joke in a loud voice(I couldn’t see him) then the Choir members start laughing. The man got up to walk over to the Altar, when I discovered to my dismay, it was their Priest:( .

Mine does. www.immaculateconceptionjax.org/contact.ivnu
Immaculate Conception Church in downtown Jacksonville, Florida:)
when I am at home, and not away in frigid Ohio, I try to plan to make it to the EF at Immaculate Conception ever Sunday, as you are the only Church in the diocese to offer it(to my knowledge). However, its 8 AM start time and the hour drive to get there never seem so great when I get home on Saturdays(or should I say, veeeeeery early Sunday:p ).

None the less, that is a most gorgeous Church

:wave:Good morning, SenorSalsa! Yes, unfortunately Immaculate Conception is the only church in the Diocese to offer it:( . Gorgeous, yes! The first time I entered that Church, I was awe-struck with it’s beauty! We are so blessed to have it here.

Google Ecclesia Dei, their site will list by state and diocese the available Latin Masses. In St. Augustine diocese they show:

That’s funny, Love the story and thanks for sharing!! Father Jan has been here for about a year and a half. Come back and visit sometime. Parish is growing, choir is exceptional as well as the organist. My children attend the school now and thriving. Put the word out if anyone is looking for a strong Catholic Parish and School. We may be small in stature, but were mighty in Faith!

I will do that! I might visit again sometime because now that I’ve heard about Fr. Jan, I have to see him for myself!🙂

yeah I know, I just always hope some parishioner will have secret knowledge of a priest who offers it privately, or at least not announced to the public(read as: the higher ups). But alas, not yet.

N.B. I do really like our Bishop, and am in the process of becoming a seminarian for the diocese, so it isn’t that I think its bad, he just has strict rules on who can say it

I thought that His Holiness Benedict XVI has given permission to all priests to say it with or without applying to the Bishop for permission? Am I wrong again?:o

you are right. However, whether or not the Bishop follows that is a different story
