Need help- Apologetics

Im no expert, but I retain things well and I’m setting out to prepare a very simple apologetics introduction workshop for my parish(and yours if you wish) that will be a one night class. In this class I am going to introduce apologetics covering a very basic span of what to say to other Christians if asked about their faith. I would like to know if anyone would be willing to write up some basic apologetics, based on the bible and catholic teachings. It’s called the ABC’s of Apologetics-Answering Bible Christians. It will include:
A- defending the church(and the pope)
B- refuting Sola Scriptura
C- defending the sacraments
And I’d like to somehow work in defending Mary and Priests if I could.

If you are versed in apologetics and willing to write up some stuff on simple apologetics based on scripture(because bible Christians only accept scripture) I would love to talk with you about your ideas if you wish to contribute. This is going to be a humble collection of apologetics for a small(or large) one time class to give under-informed Catholics a fighting chance to defend the hope that is within them. I pray someone can step up with me and lend a hand for this free of charge class and perhaps even host one in their own parish.

Simply post on this thread any suggestions, encouragements, or that you wish to help write some literature and wish for me to message you on here.

I recommend that you get your hands on Sheed and Ward’s “Catholic Evidence Training Outlines”.

It was available in paperpack form several years ago (I got one), but I don’t know if it is still in print.

Frank Sheed was a British publisher and Catholic apologist who is considered the first, and best modern-era apologist. He literally stood in a “square” in London where it was customary for people to literally take to a “stage” and begin discussing whatever topic one wanted to discuss with those passing by. Of course, by doing this, Sheed subjected himself to the most trying of circumstances, considering he had to deal with atheists, non-Catholics, and hecklers of all sorts.

Those Outlines are considered THE training manual for any Catholic apologist.

One humble word of advice/caution: given the subject matter you wish to cover in so short a period of time, be prepared for YOU to control the time devoted to each subject and NOT let the audience dictate the timing. If you don’t, you will find that you may not reach the second subject before time has run out. You must set your time periods for each subject, and when time is up - it is up. You will have to develop some sort of “closing” where you “invite” those who might wish to follow-up with you on a personal basis, but conclude with something along the lines of “well, we will just have to agree to disagree”, and move on.

St. Michael’s Media of Michigan has some good material. Realcatholictv.com has piles of free material that you may use.

Sola Scriptora doesn’t work, and this is best proven by common sense. The bible wasn’t written until 50-100 years after the death of Jesus. That means that the Evangilists used a different means of instruction. Word of mouth! It was popular in that day. The Didache was the common instructional format used by the early church.

It wasn’t until the Council of Nice(Trent? I never remember the name.) that ended in the year 400 that defined the bible. There were once 27 gospels and 3 apocolypses. Only 4 and 1 are valid, as fought for and proven by the fathers of our church.

For the rest, it helps if you read scripture. Know it better than the protestants!
