So I came upon this on a page against the HHS mandate:

“Is viagra ok by these people? If so they contraception should be. As for religious rights- where was the rights of young BOYS to be safe in their CHURCH? Seems to me the Church does what it wants to do and says the Government has no right to stop the MOLESTATION of young boys , or anything else the church wants to do. It has been proven repeatedly Women in ALL religions use contraception. These religious leaders are afraid there won’t be enough young children to MOLEST IN THE FUTURE”

This is what is going to be my response:

The CHURCH is not responsible for this. There is bad people in EVERYTHING. Bad people in the Government, In Society, and even in Religious institutions. The 2000 year old church should not be blamed for what it’s clergy do, It does not define the church as a whole

Is this somewhat right? Any suggestions?:o

Honestly, I wouldn’t respond at all. All that would do is develop into a huge argument and neither of you would change the other’s mind.

Up to you whether to respond. You might point out that Viagra’s purpose is to assist in a “natural” process that isn’t working correctly. “The pill” etc. is to PREVENT a natural process that IS working correctly. Big difference.

The person making that statement is not speaking reasonably and I would ignore it.

The answer you did give sounded fine.

Molesting and Contraception is two different topics.
People ( and Clergy) are fallen and there is always a difference between what we know is right and what we do. The church has submitted to the authority of the governement in this matter. And yes we need to protect our young and follow Gods laws.
The problem with contraception is the issue that if you are wrong about when life begins you end up killing someone-

Thanks guys. I don’t even think I will reply. I have enough of that, lol.

The person is clearly hopelessly ignorant and you shouldn’t waste your time responding to them.

The only thing worth addressing in that silly rant is the viagra bit, which is presumably a clumsy dig at the natural law. Viagra is A-OK when it facilitates a naturally healthy function. Contraception isn’t because it inhibits it. Likewise, wearing eyeglasses is fine because it helps your sight; gouging out your eyes with a fork isn’t. Like the kids say, duh.

Sexual Abuse Is Not Just A Catholic Problem

When the Catholic sex abuse scandals first began to come to light, many commentators rushed to pillory the Church as an institution whose beliefs and practices were singularly responsible for creating a culture of abuse. As this story makes clear, pedophilia is not simply a Catholic problem; the problems associated with sexual abuse of children and the reporting of those crimes cannot be confined to one group or belief.

Nor is child sexual abuse a religious problem. Last year’s abuse and coverup scandal at Penn State, and the recent reports of widespread abuse at an L.A. elementary school, show many of the same hallmarks, from witnesses refusing to testify against a beloved authority figure to disbelief or denial from the broader community. Pedophilia is a human problem; it requires no religious dogma or institution to nurture it. Celibate priests, married rabbis and beloved coaches: nobody has an exemption

Maria,

Your reply is feeding the trap “Church”…forget about the Church and take each sentence independently.

**"Is viagra ok by these people? If so they contraception should be. **

Viagra is a medication that is used for impotence. Contraception has no relationhship to impotence and the two are a non-sequitor to be equated as health care. These are two different issues…

Dispelled.

**As for religious rights- where was the rights of young BOYS to be safe in their CHURCH? **

As is the link to refocus the discussion. Young boys suffer in the world. The Church, Protestant pastors, secular leaders have sinned. Sin is sin…The Church does not condone violation of rights.

Dispelled, another argument…altogether.

Seems to me the Church does what it wants to do and says the Government has no right to stop the MOLESTATION of young boys , or anything else the church wants to do.

The Church is not under government control. The Church cooperates with investigations admitting past mistakes.

Dispelled, unrelated argument.

** It has been proven repeatedly Women in ALL religions use contraception. **

Show the proof. What difference does this make. All religions unfortunately are not the OHCAC. So what?

Dispelled.

These religious leaders are afraid there won’t be enough young children to MOLEST IN THE FUTURE"

Untrue and unrelated to the prior sentence or the opening sentence and appears to be the instigator for you to defend the Church. The Church has learned from past mistakes and has made changes to prevent future problems.

Case in point…my daughter received a text from a boy that was inappropriate. I did not know what to do…I called the Police…they told me that if I reported it that they would have to investigate and look into what the boy was doing…

I called the Church…the minute I told the Church…they called the Police and made a report and I had to report this kid…it did not amount to anything but once the Church is notified…they are obligated to call the Police…zero tolerance…
