Are you basing your assumptions on young people who are using pot? Because if that is the case then I agree with you. Young people should not smoke pot or drink alcohol, and the ones who do normally do experiment at a young age talk of getting “baked”, or if trying alcohol want to get “drunk”. I am referring to responsible adults. The same ones who drink responsibly. Same ones can moderate marijuana. You are talking about your past experiences with young kids who have no business drinking or smoking pot.
how can you clarify responsible in a world currently built around abuse? or with a generation that is nothing different than the ones before nor after it? if you legalize marijuana and have the regulation of 21 and over, then it will change nothing as younger kids will still be able to purchase or steal it. Underage drinking does not seem to change and this insane thought that legalizing marijuana would change that situation is a joke. there will never be a change when no one is speaking out about responsibility and enforcing it. keep cannabis illegal and develop a zero tolerance ideaology around it…that is the only acceptance before allowing proper and reasonable medical study on the plant to create a form of aspirin for cannabis (meaning creating a pill or drink that has the same chemical in it). Allowing the drug to be legal is another excuse to use it and another message supporting abuse instead of responsibility.
I have been all over the world and have only known a few people who even consider pot as a religious sacrament. Of all the people I have known in the U.S who smoke the same is true. I personally know scores of responsible adults who partake in the use of marijuana from time to time and none of them are abusing it. I also know other adults who do abuse it, but then again, I know even more who abuse alcohol. It is all about moderation and education.
how bout this… ask the people who you think use it responsibly “why they use it”. and if you use it…ask yourself the same question and be honest about it. then get back to me on that and try to say it is not abuse.
To say that marijuana is automatically some sort of religious activity is not true and is base on your limited experience with people and understandings of others religions.
I would disagree when there are several accounts within American history depicting native Americans using marijuana in part of ceremonies that are heavily connected to their culture and early religion. There are eastern philosophies that embrace marijuana use as a means to meditate as does so called ‘modern’ philosophies. Many of these ideals actually cross basic Christian teaching, and I know for a fact C.C. does not support substance use when Praying.

So you think ignoring my facts and rebuttal against your OPINION makes you right? You sir are the most ignorant person in this whole thread and it’s your thread. The fact that you ignore me also shows that you have no way to discredit me, which in turn obviously makes you the loser in this argument. No one on your side of this two-sided argument will ever back you up as you would be detrimental to the cause.

Yes, well you’d be thinking that because the “studies” told you that. If anything you drive more carefully. Unless you smoke to much, but thats not the case. I am risking no one but myself getting a ticket. Driving drunk is much different and a thousand times more dangerous.
You risk the lives of every one who is using the road. It isn’t a ticket, it is a criminal offence…impaired driving by drug.

You openly admit to deliberately driving while impaired by a drug…you are a menace to those who share the road with you.

Shame on you.

I hope you’re arrested and charged criminally for impaired driving…before you hurt someone.

Well I’m sure I’ll be fine. Driving high does not equal driving drunk. I don’t drive drunk because it’s dangerous. High, I’m fine. And, a cop can’t do anything to me even if I am high because there is no way to prove it. They would have nothing to charge me with. 😉

As one involved with the local law enforcement I disagree. There is no such thing as “proof” until it reaches a court of law, but there is something called reasonable suspicion which means an officer can perform a field sobriety test based on that. Of course that’ll only happen if you give him reasonable suspicion which happens often when people are under the influence of marijuana. And btw you will fail a field sobriety test if he gives you one having recently used marijuana. Cops aren’t stupid buddy they know what to look for.

I don’t know what backwards country you live in, but in Canada, drug induced impaired driving is a crime and convictions are registered.

Well I’m in America and other than a sobriety test, which a pot smoker would normally pass unless he just over did it, there is no way to Prove, which is the main factor, that I am driving under the influence of anything. If I have nothing in my possession they have to let me go.

just because you own a chair or dine at a restaurant does not mean you are lost in gluttony…when you are lost in addiction however, that is another thing. please leave sarcasm out of this thread
Again, owning a La-Z-Boy chair doesn’t equate to sloth; I am certain their owners are not addicted to their creature comforts and are able to rest on hard wooden benches as well. The sarcasm was directed to the Puritan notion that even being in the vicinity of something which might turn a mind away from God is a sin in itself and should be banned. The broader point stands that if marijuana should be prohibited because of sloth then so should La-Z-Boys.

.

lol. I just want to point out the 2 or 3 separate arguments going on in the same thread.

How about this fact, marijuana is a carcinogen:( I cannot think of many people I have known that smoke pot that have not been negatively affected, seems to kill motivation to work.I believe it is as bad as alcohol or cigarettes and all tend to be harmful, no one benefits from abuse of any of these vices:( alcohol seems to be the least harmful IF used in moderation…that is a scientific fact.

Yeeeeah. Actually that is not a scientific fact. Alcohol has a higher toxicity level than marijuana.

In 1972, after reviewing the scientific evidence, the National Commission on Marihuana and Drug Abuse concluded that while marijuana was not entirely safe, its dangers had been grossly overstated. Since then, researchers have conducted thousands of studies of humans, animals, and cell cultures. None reveal any findings dramatically different from those described by the National Commission in 1972. In 1995, based on thirty years of scientific research editors of the British medical journal Lancet concluded that “the smoking of cannabis, even long term, is not harmful to health.”

Keep coming and I’ll keep knocking you down.

Oh and if you use a vaporizer all negative effects are virtually nullified.

Just because you believe alcohol is safer shows me you’ve done no research to back up anything you’ve said. Even people who are against it recognize alcohol is 100 times more harmful and debilitating.

weed will lead to lung cancer and COPD, that my friend is a fact, much more carcinogenic then cigarettes, as a registered respiratory therapist I stake my credentials on this fact, alcohol fries your liver, weed destroys the lung, peace be with you and goodnight:o

That’s awesome, I live in that country too, hence my location, but cops don’t prove anything outside of a court. They gather evidence, that’s all. When they detain, issue a citation, or arrest somebody, they don’t do so under proof of anything. Even the scene of a person holding a bloody knife over a dead body can not be taken as “proof” they killed that person. All that happens inside of a court of law. Like I said in my previous post, you will fail a field sobriety test if you are given one. Most marijuana users don’t pass them, unless that person hasn’t had much at all or has an extreamely high tollerance.

the american cancer society, the American Medical association have allready done the research, alcohol can and will kill and so can weed or cigarettes.

You give me a source from a Christian homepage? As the study said, yes it has some, far less than cigarettes. And, as I said, if a vaporizer is used it nullifies it. Why you ask? Because there is no combustion. Oh wait…theres more:
The active ingredient in marijuana cuts tumor growth in common lung cancer in half and significantly reduces the ability of the cancer to spread, say researchers at Harvard University who tested the chemical in both lab and mouse studies.
That’s just the headline. Here is the source:

Go ahead and send me your credentials in the mail and I will burn them for you.

As for …stringbeanduck?..I can say the alphabet backwards even while under the influence. So Nyah. 😛

Edit: If you look at the bottom the article was originally from the American Association for Cancer Research.

and they quote the AMA and american cancer society, both are universally respected, God bless you, take care of yourself OK? have you noticed this is a Catholic forum? I am concerned about you and your health, is that such an awful thing as to incite your rage?😦

I thank you for your concern, truly, I am just saying it’s misguided. There isn’t anything to be concerned about. People just believe the lies that have been fed to them over the years, which recently people are actually taking a second look at and seeing that it was all propaganda.

Oh they don’t care how tallented you are when you are using marijuana, they look for involuntary symtoms. Different intoxication means different tests. When the officer pulls out his pen and tells you to follow it with your eyes, there is no way you’re gonna be able to control their involuntary actions.

cancer.org/docroot/NWS/content/NWS_1_1x_Smoking_Marijuana_May_Increase_Cancer_Risk.asp is this misguided? again…I am concerned about your health, I like beer but limit my self to a six pack a month, weed? no way, anyway peace be with you:)
