Hi all! I have been trying to reach out to priest/church in my area to start a formal process in converting to Catholicism but can not get a response from anyone. I am a devout Christian, I read the bible daily, pray the rosary daily, and in prayer for 2-3 hours a day, while I also spend my entire life now volunteering and serving others. I have read the catechism, the early church fathers, most famous saints, Mariology, modern spiritual guides like Nouwen, Merton, and many more . What I’m trying to say is that I take this very seriously and have been called to religious life as a “lesser brother”. I am in my mid 30’s and from what I have read so far I can only start a formal process with the Capuchins after being in the Church for two years. I live in Texas, so my question is, is there anyone in particular that you may have in mind that can help me start the formal process of entering the Church either in Dallas, Waco, Austin, or San Antonio? I would greatly appreciate any help you may be able to offer me. -In Christ.

That sounds like an unusual situation. Are you attending Mass regularly?

No one is attending mass regularly, but I have attended just not in my diocese. I was planning on starting to then the whole virus thing happened.

Oh dude, it put a wrench in a lot of all our plans. You may have to wait.

I appreciate that! I have used all their links and contacted them to no avail. So I was asking more in line with a personal email (my fault for not clarifying)

Patience is a virtue. Discernment to a vocation is frequently a protracted and even agonizing process. It can take years, even decades in some cases. You have the perseverance, but if you are experiencing difficulty, pray for patience.

Have a read:

You are far from alone in this. My conversion took 35 years.

I definitely agree, although there is an age limit for religious life and I am fastly approaching it. The waiting doesn’t bother me, I’m more concerened with the ability to garner a response from a single person in the Church.

There’s that old adage about not putting your eggs all in one basket. If a door is closed, try a window.

Many parishes have sent their staff home for safety during the pandemic. They will return to a huge backlog of emails and messages. It make take a bit but your message will receive a reply.

You are in my prayers

Our Parish is having RCIA online, but I am uncertain if it is for those who were already coming into the Church or if they are accepting new members at this time.

You can reach out to our Parish Office and see if they are accepting new members to RCIA at this time (our RCIA also goes year round). You could also join one of our Bible Studies if you would like to attend an online Zoom Bible Study (with the shelter in place we have moved our studies online using Zoom for now). You are welcome to PM me if you have any questions.
