Need Help Deciding On A Parish

Hello -

My wife and I are relocating to a new city in about 8 days. I have put in a good deal of time researching parishes in that area, and now I am trying to decide on a parish to settle down at. In particular, there is a Dominican parish that I think would be a great fit for us. The only catch is that they condone centering prayer there, as there is a centering prayer group that meets weekly. This concerns me as I understand this practice to be controversial at best, and dangerous and harmful at worst. Should I take this as a legitimate red flag, or am I being too black and white? Thanks for your time!
 
Why don’t you visit the parish – or visit a number of parishes – and see what you think of them first hand.

There are some terms – and centering prayer is one of them – that seem to take on different meanings to different people. I wouldn’t make a judgment based on what some people think it means.

Very good idea, Suscipe. Maybe I can even ask someone on the staff about it and see what they say. Everything else about it seems like a great fit!
 
Go check out the parish. You don’t have to join the Centering Prayer Group. My parish has a Centering Prayer Group and I never think about it, even though I know several people who belong to it.

Maybe you ought to go there and learn from them what its about rather than use this forum where the subject is banned.

Uh oh! My fault! I guess I thought since it was kind of indirectly referencing centering prayer, it would be ok. Didn’t mean to start an inappropriate topic! Thanks to those who responded.
