Hi guys,

I have stated previously that I will be in NY on 29/12/06. I need to find a church in the vicinty of where I am staying (seeing I wont be driving and dont want to rely on anyone or anything but my own 2 legs). How do I go about finding out mass times, churches etc.

I tried looking up Google, however I am not sure what streets/avenues are close to each other and whether the church is close enough to walk to. :o

Masstimes.org is the biz for finding churches and mass times.

Thanks for that. Unfortunately it doesnt help. I guess what I really need to know is this. Here in Australia we have a website which enables you to type in an address, then it gives you a map of where that address is with neighbouring services i.e. church etc. Can I find anything like that to show me what is around the place I will be staying at???

I have no idea of parish names, streets etc so I would have the faintest idea where to start looking. I know the street name I am staying at, but thats about it.

if you have mapquest and yellow pages for US on yahoo or other service, so you can find the address with postal zip code, you can enter the zipcode in masstimes.com, but a postal zip code is a pretty big area. why not email your host, or the hotel or whatever and just ask about Catholic churches within walking, taxicab or subway distance?

Try Yahoo Maps. You can type in the address and when you get your map, choose the “Community Services” option from the SmartMap box on the side, then select “Places of Worship” from the sub-menu. You can then click on the buttons that pop up on the map to get more info.

This is fantastic. I have found quite a few “Christian Churches” and Baptist Churches" and also a Synagogue 😃 Some of the places have names such as “Sacred Light Fellowship”. Trying to search them as we speak. There was no specific catholic church, but I will keep looking.

Thanks puzzleannie. The friend I am staying with is far far away from church, I probably will have better luck finding a church then he will, plus I dont want any excuses when I get there (just in case he tells me that he was unable to find a church close enough) that will leave me stranded and not going to mass.

:bounce: :bounce: :bounce: THANKS EVERYONE, I found one. Its a little bit of a walk but I am grateful there is one so close.

Of course you can combine sightseeing and religious duty and see the beautiful St Patrick’s Cathedral - 14 East 51st Street.

The subway is really easy to use if it’s not in walking distance.

Heya missy! How are you? Long time no speak 😉

St Patrick is BEEEWWWWDIFOOL! But I was looking more for a Church for Sat vigil mass, and my best friend and hubbie are arriving that sat evening so my friend (who we are staying with) wont be able to drop me off to St Patricks on the way to the airport, has to be one closer to his home!

You should be able to type in a zipcode into masstimes.org so… oh well… I am glad that you found a church. St Patrick’s? That is quite a lovely one in New York…
