As a sister in Christ, I reach out to you in need. I am a Confirmed Catholic. I have basically thrown my faith life and prayer life into the wind and have realized what a horrible mistake that has been. It started slowly and has just disappeared altogether. I feel like I don’t know how to talk to God anymore. I miss Him.

Do you have any suggestions as to what prayers would be good to start with? I’m embarrased to talk to Him after discounting Him so completely.

Thanks!

i once was told by god that i could find him in bus drivers so where ever i went he was there and i treated the bus driver with such profone respect i tened after awhile seing his image in him

Having been in your situation a couple of times (but I hope never again!), I have a few suggestions.
  1. The Act of Contrition is a good prayer to start with before you go to bed at night or when you wake up in the morning.
  2. Go to confession and tell the priest your concerns. He can get you started on a good prayer life through pennance prayers.
  3. The Lord’s Prayer is always a winner. Given to us by Christ, Himself!
  4. Get going to Mass every Sunday.
If all of these seem too difficult, just say Thank You, God every day you wake up and find out your not in the obits:D

One more thing–if you find formal prayers are too much for you right now, just sit in front of the Blessed Sacrament or go to an Adoration chapel near you and sit in silence. You don’t have to start the conversation. Let God start. My best conversations with God are when I just listen.

The most sincere prayer I ever heard was this:

“Oh God, I give you my dirty hands. You gave me these hands and I abused them. You meant for me to do great things with these hands for your glory. I have used them for selfish reasons and done harm to your people and your creation. Take these hands, Lord, and make them new again, so that I may stop hiding them and use them now for your glory. I give them to you now.”

If you need a prayer and don’t know what to say, find a favorite scripture passage and repeat it aloud. Here’s one of my favorites:

Isaiah 40:28-31 Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the eternal God, creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint nor grow weary, and his knowledge is beyond scrutiny. He gives strength to the fainting; for the weak he makes vigor abound. Though young men faint and grow weary, and youths stagger and fall, They that hope in the LORD will renew their strength, they will soar as with eagles’ wings; They will run and not grow weary, walk and not grow faint.

There is no need to feel like it is difficult to talk to God. He is there always waiting with His arms open and has much mercy for those who love Him. He knows what is in your heart. You can tell Him your thoughts and He will listen.

I would say the Our Father, the Rosary, and start reading out of the bible( New Testament) every day to become closer to God.
You can just talk to God like He was sitting in a chair beside you. He is easy to talk to. I have also found it easy to write in a journal what I want to say to Him. I guess it is like writing a letter to Him.

Blessings

I like everyones responses. 🙂

Going to Confession humbly is the best for me. I walk out with my head held high and a big smile. A huge weight lifted off me.

It appears that Our lord is whispering in your ear to come back. Any prayer will help you along. Get a prayer book and choose your favorites and don’t forget Psalms and St John in the Bible.

Offer all your actions in His Name and before you know it, Jesus will be first and formost again in your life. Don’t forget to read about the Saints. :gopray:
