Hi, I recently returned from a trip to Italy. I was reviewing a video from my GoPro and heard this snippet of a song that was being sung in the church. This was during Mass at the Basilica of St. Peter Outside the Walls. I tried finding it on youtube, but didn’t have any luck. I’m not sure if it is in Italian or latin? Can anyone help I.D. this?

I can’t help you unfortunately but it is beautiful sounding. I hope you enjoyed your trip and hope someone can ID it for I’d like to know as well.

Mary.

I can’t clearly hear all the words, but just enough to hear that it is in French, as I heard “rendons grâce à Dieu”. I think it might be “Fille de Sion”. (Daughter of Zion).

I can only say that musically I’d place it in the latter 20th century. The chord progression at the end sounds 70s-ish to me, but I could be wrong. (As a matter of fact the overall chord progression is similar to Jim Farrell / OCP’s “Save Your People, O Lord,” but the tune is different enough to identify it as something else.)

It’s Italian; the title of the song is “Tu sei la mia vita” (“You are my life”) . The words of the snippet are from the second verse:

Credo in te, Signore, nato da Maria:
Figlio eterno e santo, uomo come noi.

Figlio eterno e santo, uomo come noi.

Spirito d’Amore, vieni in mezzo a noi:
tu da mille strade ci raduni in unità
e per mille strade, poi, dove tu vorrai,
noi saremo il seme di Dio.

Thanks, you’re right, it’s Italian. I was listening to it on my iPhone but when I played it on my iMac with the sound way up it was much clearer.
